Not surprised. Lots of software issues in the US as well. BMW is supposed to be releasing more updates. First I've heard of your issues. Hopefully your dealer can communicate with BMWAG and figure out how to load the European maps for your use while you are in Europe. Do you plan to ship your X5 back to the US? I guess they still ship out of Bremerhaven?

Yeah the plan is to take it home when I leave Germany. BMW offers free shipping back to the states when you leave as part of the deal here, I assume it's out of Bremerhaven. I previously had a 2014 X5 50i and honestly like this one much better. Dont feel that the I6 is under powered at all and the ride just feels better. Aside from the maps I'm really happy with the purchase. I'll update as soon as BMW gets back to me.

I sure miss my time in Germany. Spent 3 years in Landstuhl at the Medical Center. Drive safe on the autobahn. I read that the Greens are still pushing for a speed limit. BOO!

Update - the dealer showed me a notification (in German) that said there is a major software update to address the navigation problem and a few other glitches coming at the end of March. I asked for a copy so I could fully translate it and post it but they said it was an internal only document. Either way I have an appointment 1 Apr 19 to get the update. I'll update the post if it actually fixes anything. So far I've had the car since Jan and it's never had a software update (Nov 18 build). I havent had any software issues other then the navigation not loading. Fingers crossed.

They mentioned they will forward my concern to the appropriate department and will contact me as soon as possible. We will see what will happen. Also I made an appointment at the dealer for April 4th. Hopefully the maps will get fixed together with the lights and Driving assistance problems. More to follow. |

Hi guys, I ordered a U.S. spec in italy Jun19, and just heard about this euro map issue from the dealer in Aviano. Im supposed to take delivery in Sep 19. I really hope this gets sorted out soon.

Hope you got the maps up to date. I'm in Vienna, AT driving an EU spec F16 I bought through BMW mil/diplo sales and even with updated EU maps the navigation is sometimes clueless.
I'm thinking of buying the new G06 and have recently opened a thread on BMW Diplomatic sales discounts (under pricing). I'd love to hear your experience in this regard. I'm sure each of us were given different interest rate numbers and incentives. Knowing what the minimum sale price and money factor they'd go for is would be a negotiation game changer. Thanks! |

Sorry to hear no one driving a US spec G05 in Europe has been able to use the Nav system. Still lots of issues in the US with some of the tech features in the new X5. BMW has tried to go too far with this car in terms of the tech IMO. Dealers are often clueless and BMW support online and on the phone is deficient. Sad that you will need to use an external GPS unit in a new vehicle equipped with Navigation from the factory.

I’m in the Netherlands with a Canadian specs 2019 X5 and I have been told the same thing from two different dealerships around my area. They couldn’t tell me if BMW was going to develop a solution for this issue. I also asked about the Connected drive services since they come free for 4 years in Canada but that as well couldn’t get transferred. Because of that I can’t even create a driver profile in my car...all of this is very frustrating to say the least.

I'm going to revive this thread, because I just ordered a US spec 2020 X5 M50i, and was told by the dealer about the navigation issues (I live in Belgium).
Incidentally, a good friend in stuttgart just bought an X5 40i about 6 weeks ago, and his navigation WORKED..... until they did the latest software update, and now it doesn't work, and he is waiting as well. Needless to say, he is PISSED. This issue only applies to Idrive 7. I was "told" that because BMW only sells about 3000 vehicles per year to military stationed in Europe, that there hasn't been much focus on this issue (because it's such a small percentage of their sales) I am supposed to take delivery of my M50i in January 2020, and I am "hopeful" that it will be sorted out by then. In the meantime..... I suggest all of us European stationed folks with US spec cars share info with one another. Chances are, we may learn something before the dealer does, and we may have to "inform" them. |
