Premature wear on front tires 22"

was wondering if anyone has experienced premature wear on front 22" Continental tires?

My car is only 10K kms and the tires have worn about half of the tread and also show excessive wear on the top of the sidewalls.

Any input is greatly appreciated

It's going to be hard to gauge whether or not this is excessive. So much of this depends on driving style. If you routinely take turns at 70 km/h, you're going to see those tires wear a lot faster.

With that being said, 10k km at 50% wear does seem pretty excessive. I would guess with UHP summer tires you should get at least 20k miles, or 33k km.

I replaced mine at 16k and they appeared just the same. I did not put Continentals back on though, went with the Pirelli P Zero's. The ride quality and handling is much better. Plus the Pirelli's also have a tire bead that somewhat protects the wheel.

I'd have an alignment check - definitely looks like to much positive camber. It's odd how much the shoulder treads is raised compared to the middle.

Checked it at the dealer two months ago and according to them was OK....will take it this week again to re check it and Ill be there jus to double check.

Still doesn't make any sense that it should be out with only 10K kms and given the fact that I only drive on paved roads and very carefully. Unless it came unaligned from the factory.

But you know, as usual the dealer says the wear is normal.

Will update after I put it on the alignment bench next week.

Of course it could come unaligned from the factory. I would not trust dealer to do / check alignment. BMW specs are very wide. Do your research what the target specs are and go to reputable shop with proper equipment.

That doesn't look right if it's just 10k km. If the pressure is ok then you should check alignment. Do you usually corner aggressively?

UPDATE!

just came from the dealer and put it on the alignment bench and all measurements are OK within limits.

Can anyone with 22's tell me what psi's are you using on the tires.

According to the door plate it should use 32 in the fronts and 34 on the backs with light loads which seems too low to me and that will worsen the wear on the front tires shoulders.

Appreciate any inputs on the tire pressures and how the wear is behaving on the fronts

We've been debating the ideal 22" psi for low load (driver/passenger) over in the wheel/tire subforum.

39/45 (albeit full load, up to 100. Our door sticker/manual doesn't provide a psi for low load) is what is recommended for my US-spec 2020 M50i, which I find is too high, but I have yet to lower it. Was thinking of going 36/42

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm gonna go with 35/37 which is kind of midway between low and high load recommended on the door sticker cause I think 32/32 is too low

This is getting more confusing as I keep on reading. having an issue of excessive wear on the fronts shoulders, alignment is OK and the dealer and door sticker say to put 32 on the fronts. I think that is too low and may be the cause for the wear. Don't know what to do

I thought you were already running 35/37 and still ended up with that front wear?

I can't imagine the difference between running 32 and 35 would cause this extreme wear. When tires are under inflated you see excess wear on the outside treads, but on both sides (inside and outside). Is that the case for you? I always thought this type of wear happens when tires are severely under inflated - like running 25 PSI for a long time.

I'm running 20" Contis on my ML and have them at or close to 40psi - tire shows 50psi max.
