Rear Latch Cover Part Number
I have an ugly scuff on the trim piece that goes over the passenger side latch for the tailgate. I removed it and noted the numbers on it but a Google search comes up empty. Numbers are 7438178 and 177114. Any ideas where I can buy a new one? Thanks!

Thanks! If you pull down the tailgate you will see a latch on either side. There are plastic trim pieces that fit over them. My passenger side one is jacked. I think the part number may be 51498738628 but as you said none of those numbers I listed are in that. I’ll see if I can post a pic of the actual part.

If it's just a scuff and not a scratch. Try using a wet magic erase gently to remove it. Then apply a plastic vinyl trim dressing on it and it might disappear.

In short, it might be more hassle than it is worth. Knowing my luck, if I did replace this, I would end up with another scratch the next day. |

It’s a bit tricky to remove. I ended up breaking the post that makes it sit securely in place, otherwise I might just leave it. I’m pretty sure it came with that scratch so not too worried about damaging a new one. I guess I’ll stop by the dealer and see if they can source it.

This looks like the part you need.

Sounds like your best bet. not sure what it looks like behind the plastic, but if it is difficult to remove, I can only imagine. I've learned to really look over my car upon delivery. The last few (including the current) had some minor cosmetic issues. Honestly, it was all stuff that was bound to occur with daily use, but still.
I look at it this way...if there's minor issues, even small and pointless...I worry if there might be something I can't see. it's difficult these days since everything complicated requires a computer! |
