M50i or not
Went in for a 4.0 with the M package and am now lusting after the X5 M50i. Price point and fuel economy aside, how many people did upgrade to the M and for what reason. I have to admit that the 4.0 is a great engine and after driving the M I am not so sure which model to go for.
So let me know what to take into consideration since I am ready to strike a deal in December. |

Have you test driven the V8TT 50i?? It’s in another zip code of performance. Those that test drove one will find the money to buy one so be warned. That’s not saying the 40i is slow because it isn’t but the 50i is a monster. The power/torque jump from 60mph up to triple digits will amaze you. 70mph feels laughably slow and you will be blipping the throttle to 100mph+ all the time. The only down side is the 50i driving at slow speeds feels like a dog on a chain that wants to run and can be frustrating in traffic. The exhaust note alone is worth the admission cost.

I can also confirm that anything M for X5 is not being produced right now, so I would need to buy from the lot for December. |

Your doomed. Power corrupts and the 50i is as practical of a muscle SUV you can get. It still is a reliable cross country rig yet can be driven in mixed weather. Anything higher performance and you get low hanging radiators, performance summer tires and track suspension. |

okay can we please not say 4.0i or 5.0i it's 40i/50i seeing how these aren't engine displacements.
Anyway, the 50i/M50i is an amazing grand touring SUV and worth every penny when optioned correctly. don't get the sir suspension, DHP is the only way one should be experienced if you care about handling. While this might seem harsh, drive both and you won't be questioning the above.

Emasculation led to the M50i. She reviewed the 0-60 comparison to ensure she would still retain some advantage. I was allowed to proceed. Thank you to Auricom for all of his help on this purchase!! |

2NH M Sport brakes are a separate option. Perhaps shortage of 715 Aerodynamic kit which 40i M Sport and M50i share.

I test drove the 40i with my wife and remember thinking that it was a great ride with plenty of power for our daily commute. Came back another weekend by myself and test drove the 50i. That ruined the 40i for me. After that point I was hell bent on getting the 50i (then the M50i) - took a lot of convincing of the wife to pay the premium for the M50i, but I eventually won out!
