Not an actually study, no. If someone stands outside of the RR and try’s to speak to me I literally cannot hear them. It’s wildly silent. The wheel well noise is the biggest noise difference while driving. In the x5 I hear so much of the road noise there vs the RR. I also think it’s worth adding that I found the LCI has more road noice than my 2021.

Not bashing the BMW at all I’ve had several and will possibly come back one day, just giving you my personal experience.

We are on the search for a new vehicle for my wife. I drive an a MY24 X5 M60i my second X5 in recent years. My wife drives a MY20 RRS SE, her third RRS since 2016. Our 2019 RRS was totaled in an accident. We credit the RRS with our safety, no significant injuries (amongst the five members of our family).

We went to see a couple MY24 RRS SE at our local dealer (we actually have three dealers within 45 min drive). The improvements over the previous generation are significant including the now standard features. Quite astetically pleasing inside and out. Unfortunately none of the vehicles at our local dealers are spec’d the way we would want. However, one of the dealers has an incoming vehicle in June 2024, which we can modify to our spec getting the few options we want and nothing extra with an MSRP of $88K.

It is a difficult decision because she does like the X5 too and I am confident we can get 4% off MSRP plus an additional $4000 off using financing with NFCU and another $1000 off with BMW CCA. So a loaded X5 40i with an MSRP of approximately $85,000 ends up around $77k. Plus free maintenance with BMW for three years! The unfortunate thing about the 40i and probably the only reason we won’t go this route is the lack of the ability to option air suspension and m-sport package. With standard suspension the vehicle is a bit high for my wife and her legs always hit/rub when exiting the vehicle.

We have very limited time to make the decision on the RRS as the window closes on the ability to spec it the way we want.

We will see….

When I was first checked out the new RRS I definitely came away thinking it was a step above. I wasn’t allowed to test drive as it was a customers car so I didn’t get to experience the road noise myself. I’ve only since seen reviews on how quiet the x5 was. Had I not been biased by those reviews I would have assumed the RRS was quieter based on just sitting in one.

In the US? Saw a few reviews and they said it wasn’t standard, but good to know that has changed.

Unfortunately, we don't have proper car reviewers when it comes to objective/scientific measurements. You cannot test drive different cars on different roads with different tire (size, brand etc.) and judge the cabin noise. I had a 23 760 and also bought an X5 LCI. One of the reviewers (Car confections) measured the LCI cabin noise same or less than 7 series. I can tell you that is NOT the case. The 7 series is way way more quiet. I also test drove an RRS and is noticeably quieter than the X5. I am surprised by lack of any sound insulation material in X5 doors and lack of acoustic glass as an option. I also had an Acura MDX (the current gen) and it was way quieter than the X5. Overall, BMW has dropped the ball in this department on the X5

I understand it's hard to separate yourself from an objective data point but I do not believe there is any daylight whatsoever between the safety of a RRS and a X5. Over the years we've seen some horrific wrecks of X5s where the passengers walked away unharmed.

You can't get the 40i with M-Sport or air suspension anymore? I confess its been years since I spec'd one but that doesn't sound right?

Speaking for the US, the 40i is available with the MSport package and always has been. The air suspension hasn't been available on a consistent basis for the 40i for three years or so. It usually shows as available and the beginning of the MY but is pulled and no vehicles can be ordered with it.

Except for MY25 you can option the air suspension for the 40i however not with the m-sport package.

I placed a deposit and modified a preexisting order on a MY24 RRS SE to our specs for my wife with anticipated June delivery.

Ordering rules aside, not that we have seen but I guess they could actually be offering it this year.

If your budget is $100k it’s just power v.s. Comfort as M60i can’t be equipped with airsprings.
M60 can be optioned with air suspension

I have air suspension on my xDrive40i order scheduled for week 14. We’ll see if that comes through or not in a few weeks.

I had the m sport package and the lower panel protrudes out much further make egress harder. That didn’t bother me as much as the fact that so much dirt could get in between the door and lower skirt that my pant legs would always get dirty. The RR, similar to x3, the door goes nearly to the bottom of the vehicle so that “interior” lower body colored panel stays clean.
