Remote update was downloaded but not installing. Followed the process ( parked car, headlights off, windows up, etc) but not installing. I’m thinking this is also the reason my avatar/profile picture isn’t updating either even though it updated on the app. Any idea how to get this update to go through without going to a dealership? ( warranty expired so they will probably charge me for that)

If you have a battery charger, put it on the vehicle. Depending on how big it is, it could actually take a couple of days. The batteries in the vehicle must be above a certain level prior to it starting the update, and especially in the winter, they may not be.

This doesn’t resolve it all of the time, but it is a reason the update won’t start. I wish BMW would tell you why it won’t start, rather than leaving you hanging.

BMW does not support updates on demand so it is not possible to download the update unless notified that it is available for your vehicle.

I did not have a success no matter what tried, battery charge, long range driving etc. I brought it to dealer because the car developed intermittent black screen on center screen. They updated the software and fix the issue 4-5 month ago. Last week I got a notice for RSU and it went through smoothly. I bet if something is stuck at RSU, it is less likely going through without dealer update. Just give them a call for a quote.

My car successfully downloaded it and it did prompt me one time to install, but I was leaving for work so I said remind me later, and it has never prompted me again. I did throw it on the charger yesterday, but it did not help. Very strange.

That is "normal" as it happened to me and some other members. My brother actually texted me yesterday asking about it since his offered the update but he wanted to wait until after a road trip he was taking, it never offered it again.

One thing I experienced that may get over looked, is make sure the parking brake is set. I have seen my two G05's update with and without the parking brake set. You might even see a check list to remind you of the requirements before you can proceed, depending on the version of software your are upgrading from.

I usually keep car idling for 10-20 minutes on my driveway and this is enough to start update.

I found out on my last update that you need to be parked and have parking break on and it goes from letting you know when it's ready to be installed to You can install. I got that same message and waited and waited etc...

Why do you do that? Do you mean instead of taking a drive?

you have to take a drive with wifi and bluetooth connected so the phone app can upload the update to idrive for installation. After that it's ready to go after successful upload completion.

you will then get the message it will let you know when it is ready to be installed. It has to prep the upgrade before you can apply it.

Be patient, it will prompt you to install eventually. Mine took a couple of days. It's not a major update so you're no really missing anything with this update anyway.

Another strange bug I noticed. Even in my heated garage the temperature continues to display 17°f. Even if I start the car and put it in gear it continues to display that same temp. I think the temperature has to be above 48° or so for the update to install right?

It may take a few minutes to update the temp. The minimum temp for the update to install is 14F.

Went back out and now it says 24°. No update option.

Has nothing to do with ambient temperature.

Mine didn't update for several years - always had to get the dealer to finish it off from the 'preparations complete' stage. They told me it was because I do not use the car much (its a second car used only on weekends - late 2019 with mileage not even hitting 15k yet!) and the battery was probably sitting at a low charge.
They updated for me, and never thought much of it.

Couple of weeks back I hooked up a battery tender (I've started doing this every few months) and a week later I was informed of an update - here we go again I thought - but to my surprise this time it actually went through the install perfectly fine - first time ever!

I think it has more to do with battery levels then anything else.... yes, if its super cold outside, then this will affect battery levels also.....

Wondering why my app downloaded 03/2023.67 when others here are showing 03/2023.50? Different X5 model?

I am in the same boat - downloaded to the vehicle but does not instal (with fully charged battery, parking brake and level ground). I was hoping to update once before getting my anti dazzle coded. Oh well.

It just depended on the timing. 11/2023 just started as OTA for iD7 vehicles the other week.
