2022 X5 Oil Change Question
HI All,
I bought a 2022 X5 M-Sport last year. It's approaching 5,000 miles and I was wondering if I should do an oil change prior to the 10K miles or wait till 10K miles. Thanks!! |

Did you get any free oil changes from dealer? We did but it only stressed me out because had to wait to 10k and had no dipstick to verify they actually did it. Health was bad and couldn't do it anyway until the 4th one and thereafter at 5-6k. Not sure how they soaked the underside of my acoustic cover foam with oil but I got a new one for free. The M cars are supposed to have fluids done earlier than non M.

M Sport is not a M car so it follows the same maintenance schedule as non-M cars. (I have the same one as the OP--but he didn't say what engine, I have the V8/N63). And yes you should change at 5K IMHO. But always lots of lively debate here and elsewhere on that strategy.
And if you have the N63 there is a dipstick. |

It's a 40i - my bad!
It's brand new so it's covered under the maintenance plan. My only concern is about waiting till 10K for the first oil change. I was wondering if folks do one at 5K and then another at 10K or just wait till the indicator comes on. Thanks! |

Changing it sooner won't hurt anything. It's your vehicle. Change it as often as you like. I did a break-in change on my 40i at 2000 and then let the dealer change at 10K. I specifically did not reset the oil change indicator when I did the change at 2k because I wanted the dealer to do one at 10k/1yr.

Look up the car, care nut on YouTube and watch the Toyota that he tears the engine apart that recommend oil changes at 10,000 miles and how long the engine did not last because of the 10,000 mile oil changes it’s all marketing they don’t care when the car is out of warranty that’s on your dime . |

Look for specials. The dealer I go to always have $99 oil change specials. 8 qts of oil and filter is around $80-90. Might as well pay them to do it and save time. I do it every 6 months or 5000. Whichever comes first.

I wouldn’t go to the dealer if it’s free for the time I take two hours to drive there two hours in the waiting room two hours back and a tank of gas can do it at my house and a half hour
