Crystal radio knob

Just trying to understand the crystal radio knob history. Was it originally factory installed? Was it dropped at one point for some reason? I know I have a late build '21 and it doesn't have it.

yes, it used to be factory installed along with the other crafted clarity accessories then subsequently "limited availability" when supplies diminished. I think the G05 M50i and G07 get priority.

Interesting. I have a late March build and it doesn't have it. I wonder when it dropped off? I think I will speak with my dealer about it as I was assured my 50i was built with no omissions. (Fully loaded with the exception of the rear entertainment). They should be able to order a factory replacement shouldn't they?

it's not considered an "omission" per se as it was quietly not installed prior to November 2020 when mine was built. AFAIK, i don't believe you can purchase it from the dealer separately because it's a limited availability item. (I don't think they have some laying around for us to buy if they can't allocate them for vehicles at the factory, right?) there's another thread on this subject but can't find it. it has the name of a reseller that might have some in stock.

Thanks, yes I have read the other thread on the subject and know the aftermarket solution. Was just thinking I could squeeze the dealer for a new one, but it's sounding like it was not included when I ordered it in January. Might have to go the other way, it doesn't sound to hard to install the aftermarket version. Thanks again!

Glass control volume knob was removed for MY21 production X5s effective May 21, 2020.

Faster and easier to go aftermarket.
