Isn't that supposed to be the iNext? The rear looks slightly longer than the X5. Makes sense that they would follow the iX3 approach. I just hope they don't use Briliance to make these.

It's iNext that most likely will change the name.
Don't know the physical specs but it's a nice size compared to X5 I just know that is coming in 2021 and will have range of 435miles ( or this is what the target is ) They will use more density battery to archive this goal. BTW I changed the Avatar picture to green hulk because of front page. Signal green M8. Lol

The iX3 is on an X3 Chinese market long wheel base, so it could still be the iX3...

iX (iNext) Updates
It appears the iNext will be named iX (iX5 perhaps?), makes sense given iX3 is already out. Summarizing some points below and a few discussion topics at the end for those who are interested. There will be 3 variants:
I hope BMW keeps some essential tactile physical buttons and don't go all touch/voice. Current X5 implementation is better and hopefully they don't abandon the nice features of iDrive 7. I also hope they improve the driving assistance features using latest generation MobileEye and Lidar tech. Current lane keeping assistant feature is a mess and rear cross traffic alert needs to be improved. Weight should not change much because the number of moving parts will no longer be needed; battery weight should be offset when the engine weight along with thousands of parts are removed. One can only hope, but less parts should mean less trouble/repairs down the road. IMO BMW's biggest challenge is software. One of their current strength is excellent engine line ups, but when you remove that out of the equation and replace with electric motors then they are left with experience and know-how. It'll be fascinating to see what their differentiation strategy will be and how they'll compete with others. Knowing what SSD did to mechanical hard drive, touch screen phone did to BlackBerry and Nokia, LED to analog tube television, streaming to CD-DVD-BLURAY, mirror-less SLR to film camera etc., it is just matter of time BEVs will offer a paradigm shift in coming years. Even with hydrogen technology cars will need batteries, so it is safe to say batteries are here to stay and related tech will only get better over time. Will see what Tesla has to offer with their million mile variant in coming weeks. Would I buy a laptop with a mechanical hard drive now-a-days? Not if I have choices, and indeed there are and there will be.
It'll be naive to suggest gasoline engine will be obsolete soon, but it is safe to predict that their application will slowly become limited (transport truck, ships, heavy equipments etc.). Food for thoughts? Will love to hear your view points. Are you thinking differently? |
