I really hope so. I have more than 30 cycles on my 45e already (I have it since 5th of September). Unofficially, they said it would probably catch fire if it had any glitch.

Still thinking what to do... but for now, I am driving 2020 BMW 730d xdrive (replacement car from a dealer) and I must say that is not more comfortable, and I am very surprised to see that.

Just out of curiosity guys, as I cannot find any clear info about it, does it mean that they are replacing the entire battery in every 45e?

I am also wondering how would it affect the PHEV market for BMW - I am considering one and seeing these "may get on fire" notices I am truly worried if I want to trust it in the future.

No, some cars they know are OK (like mine) and they will do nothing to those. The ones that _might_ have a battery problem they are testing and if no problems are found, the cars are delivered to the customers. The ones with bad battery cells - I'm not sure if they will replace the complete battery or just the faulty cells (both are possible).

BMW is not the only one with battery problems - Ford has a recall, Hyundai is having a recall (and there are others).

Hey, just a question - is your car ok, like its VIN is not on recall list, or it was on recall list and they have checked something and it's ok?

My car was initially on the recall list, but after a few days, it was removed from the list. I guess they confirmed that the battery cells on my car were not from the bad batch. Car's production date is "2020-09-02".

Thanks! This is very insightful.

It shows that many vehicles produced until September 23rd are impacted, that 4 thermal incidents (aka cars burned) happened. I suppose these are the 3 known ones in Germany + the one in Liège Belgium that never appeared in the media (some frightening pictures).

Owners impacted should have received First Class mail (not the case for many) so far. Planned owner notification Nov 23rd... they take their time at BMW...

I got a call from BMW NA today about the recall. They advised me to stop charging and keep the battery at 30 percent in hybrid mode only. They also offered 1K in compensation for my inconvenience. Did any one on the here get a similar call and offer? The email was sent to me after the call....

Thank you again for taking the time to speak with me today regarding the Safety Recall on your 2021 X5 BMW.

As we discussed, your safety is important to us and we wanted to advise you that it’s important that you do not plug in your vehicle for charging. You can continue to drive the vehicle; however, it must be driven in hybrid mode only, please do not use sport mode or use the shift paddles, if equipped, as this will charge the battery.

Important Note: It is recommended that you drain the high-voltage battery. The following instructions are for your specific model:

Using iDrive, go to Settings > Driving mode > Battery Control > Set or leave the charging state at 30%.

At this time, a remedy to repair your vehicle is currently under development. You will receive a notification letter in the next two weeks via First-Class Mail advising you of this safety recall. A second letter will be sent when a remedy becomes available advising you to schedule an appointment to have the recall repair performed at an authorized BMW center.

Should you need to reach me, please email or call me at 1-855-269-3361, Monday through Friday from (8 a.m.) to (6 p.m.) Eastern Time.

We care about your safety and are sorry for any inconvenience this recall may cause.

Thanks again for your time

No Call from BMW UK. After recieving message on the vehicle. Booked car in for Recall as stated. Only to be told on the day that there was no fix & not to drive in electric nor to charge & deplete the battery.
I had to complain to BMW UK & then they offered £350 per month in compensation.

That does not come close in paying for your petrol in the UK. At least for me they are offering 1K (i'll wait to see if it comes true), at 2.5 a gallon, it will get 400 gallons. At 20 miles per gallon I will be at 8k miles. Golly I hope they figure it out by then.

$1k per month? In the UK we are being offered £350 per month. This more than covers my fuel based on my mileage

Forgetting about the cost of leasing, your car depreciates quicker that 1 k per whatever time you will not be able to enjoy the electric part of it. And the latter was the reason personally for my family to buy it the car in the first place.

I picked up my 45e this morning and the dealer confirmed it is NOT impacted by either recall issue. Mine finished production back on Oct 3.

I wasn't aware that they switched to two-tone paint jobs though. My wife was upset that the hood and roof are white....

Nice, congrats! And thanks for the update on the recall status for the recent builds. Looks like Gebhardt's delivery area from the picture...

Close, but that's actually Cos BMW up in Loveland.

My previous five Bimmers going back to 2002 were through Gebhardt but due to a few different factors, I switched to Cos this time.

Totally agree. I'm more than a little annoyed. I think they are trying to see if they can remedy it without replacing the entire battery and if they can get away with just a few cells. Issue is how would they identify the bad ones.
