Your nuts. The 1.8t is the easiest engine to modify. Literally, its probably the easiest car made to make faster and not completely go broke.

You make the A4 sound likes its a pile of shit when its really not.

Yes you own a BMW and at the end of the day you get out of your BMW? So whats the point? People buy different cars for different reasons. Someone may buy an Evo because of the pure power and easy mods and their goal of making more HP. You bought your bimmer for status and thats pretty much it so once again, Whats your point?

The M5 pulled away, far away.

But as far as the M3 and Audi A4 goes, as soon as you hit some corners that A4 will be so far in the dust it's not even funny. I don't care if the A4 has 800HP, it couldn't touch the M3's handling abilities.
My B5 A4 handled a lot better than my E90. The A4 was on stock sport suspension....

I don't drive my car for status Dude! I own a BMW and have had three others because of the superior quality, great looks and OVERALL performance. And just because something is easy to modify doesnt make it quality. If you think all cars are on par with BMW, you should have saved yourself a few bucks and just compared 1/4 mile times.

05 Audi A4 1.8 Quattro
05 Nissan 350Z
04 BMW X5
06 C6 Supercharged vette tons of custom work
02 C5 Twin turbod vette
06 bmw 330xi

Do dont even bother telling me to compare 1/4 times because i just went to the track with my e90 and expected to run somewhere in the high 14's and ran a 15.4.......So my e90 isnt as fast as i thought

Your E90 330i, or E90 M3? If your 330i, keep in mind that an M3 DESTORYS! OMFG! DESTORYS a 330i's handling abilties.

15.40?? Holy Cow! My Mom's hyundai could whip that without her even powershifting!!

It's probably going to be much faster though in a few thousand miles. Not only because of the mechanical "break-in" aspect but because the ECN will make adjustments.

Doesnt it suck that anticipated track times are never what you expect?

Errr, well a E46 M3 doesn't DESTORY a E90 330i's handling abilities. Because a E90(and E87 1 series) have just different, more modern, chassis setups. Actually, a 120d E87 with 17" alloys DESTORYS an E46 M3's handling abilities.

I had al three of them. And ran/run trackdays with them.

Dunno yet about the E90/E92 M3 V8 but that car will be a lot heavier on the nose because of its V8.

But back ontopic.

You have to give respect to someone who beat an M3 with a 1.8 engine. Props to both of the drivers!

I agree with members that there is no reason to bash other cars just because we drive a BMW. I also don't agree with the fact that you are not just a winner just because you drive a BMW. Everybody buys a car for different reasons and not everyone can afford or justify themselves spending money on a BMW (even though 3 series is not very expensive)

Granted, there are cars that can beat the crap out of my 330ci and probably my 335I (on order) as well. I paid up for a bimmer because at the end of the day....It's a bimmer! Not an Evo...Not a Subaru and certainly not an A4 and if you think an A4 is in the same ballpark as a 3 series...learn how to drive!!

P.S. I HAVE built many and worked on many engines. In my experience..1.8t is crap
We were comparing an Audi to a BMW, I'm pretty sure the Audi is up there with BMW in terms of quality and luxury. An EVO or a STi, I understand aren't in the same ballpark in terms of BMW for luxury, but you also have to note that not everyone wants to drive some luxurious BMW, people want sport and quicknesss when looking for those cars, and at the end of the race--I don't care how good you E90 handles or your E46 handles, stock for stock, I've seen STi's and EVO's stomp M3s.

But as long as your happy, that your $60,000 M3 is getting stomped on by a $36,000 Subaru, and you can still go home and be happy, becuase you driver a "bimmer", thats all that matters =]

I used to be an Audi A4 1.8T owner, and now I own a 330i. The audi is running an upgraded T28 turbo, REVO custom tune and race gas. It's pretty simple actually ... you bolt on a upgraded turbo kit to an A4, it's gonna move damn fast. Right before I sold my A4, I debated whether or not just to strap on a APR Stage III kit and be done with it. Can you say SLEEPER car?

Keeping up with M3's isn't a problem, and in the real world it all boils down to driver anyway. I don't imagine many of you do 4,500 RPM clutch drops at every light trying to squeeze out every 10th trying to match 1/4 times from the magazines. And if you do, you're stoopid

I had a 99 Audi 1.8T Quattro Avant. It was a very nice car. And you know for all the ultimate drivign machine stuff, my 325 which I got last weeks reminds me so much of that audi in feel, handling and the weak torque down low

At up to 8/10ths effort (i.e what most drivers do most of the time) the A4 is an entirely credible alternative to a 3 series. One thing reminds me of the Audi attention to detail. When you use the central locking, the locks power into place with a stepper motor smoothly, whereas the BMW is like my old Golf GTI with an electro mechanical CLUNK!!

Stop the fanboys!

I have the 330xi. I am sure the M3 destroys the 330's and the A4's handling capabilities combined. I was just saying that my 1999.5 A4 handled better than the 2006 330xi I am currently driving.
