G37x or TL SH-AWD
I'm looking for a new car for the wife and think it's narrowed down to these two. Anybody have any first hand knowledge on them. I've pretty much have owned Hondas my whole life before my 335i so I'm pretty sure of what to expect from the Acura and no she doesn't want a BMW sorry. Thanks for any help

The Honda has a good engine, much more refined than the G37. The only good thing the G37 has going for it is the RWD Chassis and driving dynamics. Dont know how this will translate into the x Model.
I would seriously recommend the SH-AWD system if AWD is a priority. However, the Acura has numb steering and is a bit slow off the line though. I also would think about waiting for them to put the 6 Speed Auto into the TL sometime this year before buying.

As good of a car as the TL is, I can't get over how hideous it is. I think it, along with the new QX56, is the ugliest car on showroom floors

Another reason to wait a bit.
http://www.autoweek.com/article/2010...NEWS/101229976 "Styling is hurting them," said Kerri Wise, Power's director of research. "It's their biggest hurdle." That may be a reason that the midcycle change of the TL, arriving in March or April, has had more than a scalpel's worth of rhinoplasty. Dave Conant, a multiline dealer with a new Acura store in Mission Viejo, Calif., has seen the new, "cleaned-up" version and said, "If it had looked like this in the beginning, we wouldn't have missed a beat."

Thanks for input so far we would be waiting for the mid cycle refresh I'm friends with the sales manager at my Acura dealership and he told me it looks way better as far as straight out speed not all that important since it is wifey car. I'm hoping they put the six speed tranny in it! anyone know about dependability of the Infiniti

I couldn't deal with the styling of the TL and I doubt any MMC is going to fix everything that is wrong with it. Still, the car is a great performer and the interior (minus the awful silver-painted plastic trim) looks great.
Btw, the engine in the G37 may have some NVH issues but with an auto its not bad at all and the exhaust note is one of my favorites. I love mine for what its worth....

I don't know if it's gotten better, but the VQ35 drone on the old G35 was annoying. That said, the Acura TL is really ugly. As much as I like Honda products, I would have to take the G37x, because I can't stand the look of the TL.

Agreed. I personally am a big fan of the styling.

G37! I've driven both and the G just had a better overall feel. They are both great cars but something about the G just felt better. Have the wifey drive both and see which one she likes better!

He means its smoother. With the jump in displacement to 3.7 liters the current VQ37HR can be a little "gritty" feeling at high rpm. This is much more noticeable in the 6MT than the 7AT though....

Since you're an owner any reliability issues that's what we don't want we're getting rid of an 08 mini s that we ordered and it's the biggest POS I've ever seen.....I think it's been in the dealers garage more than ours |

In the end, people are only willing to put forward their own experiences and mine was great with the previous TL. Not one foot wrong over 60k miles of punishment (Well, the thermometer broke), great 6 Speed manual and a wonderfully melodic engine mated to extremely good residuals.

My girlfriend recently picked up a G25x which is simply the G sedan with a smaller motor. It's still a V6 but with less HP and torque - If it really is the wife's car and not something you'll be driving, you can save a lot of cash. With the 7 speed transmission the gearing partially makes up for the lack of power. I know this isn't answering your question exactly but not many even know of the option as it's only been available for maybe 3 months. It really is a great value for those who don't need the power.

Lowering the displacement to 2.5 liters probably cures all of the NVH issues as well....

SH-AWD TL gives the most bang for the buck. I personally don't mind the styling at all. It's hard to strike an acceptable balance when it comes to exterior styling this day and age: Either it's too bland, too derivative, or too extreme.
However, the car has few faults. The performance in terms of acceleration and handling is quite good, and is a great value (fully loaded for about $45K) when you compare it to its German rivals. I'd take this over the Infiniti because of two reasons: 1) Styling - The Infiniti G's styling does absolute nothing for me. It is the typical midsize japanese-inspired styling that would keep me from buying most of their cars. The Acura's styling is extreme, but at least it has character and breaks from the blandness that permeates most japanese sedan offerings. I also like the interior of the Acura more than the Infiniti's, but this is more of a personal preference. 2) AWD + Sport = Great Deal. Just like with BMW, you don't get the full sports package with a G37x AWD model, despite the fact that they mention "sport" in their options list. The AWD models typically sit higher than the RWD versions, and Infiniti won't let you have the manual transmission with the AWD version. Acura's AWD model on the other hand, is the sportiest offering you can get for the TL. Acura's philosophy seems to be like Audi's; AWD can be an asset to performance and not assume that if the consumer is interested in the AWD version, it must mean that performance must not be a high priority. However, Acura does it for a whole lot less money, as you would need to buy an S4 to have equivalent performance, which STARTS @ $50K. |
