I received my 2021 X5MC moonroof shade section in mesh material not alcantara! Did anyone get the same treatment??

Very disappointing that BMW made this decision. My wife's 2020 X7 w exec pack has alcantara on entire headlining including the sunroof shade. BMW should not have done this on 2021 models. This is one of several changes for 2021 that are perplexing including removing rear seat entertainment pack, soft close doors, etc.

Yes for X5M owners, but they removed soft close doors from all other X5 trim levels, both as stand alone option and the exec pack.

I'm thinking there has to be some other reason other than cost - I get removing certain things, but does a yard of alacantra on 125k SUV really make a difference?

Materially the cost difference would be less than 5$

It weird my car has the full Alcantara even in the moon roof section. I have the individual ivory/blue leather individual headliner Alcantara. So it may be this not sure.

If you live outside North America, you still would get the sunroof shade in alcantara.
Earlier today, I received an email from BMW asking me my thoughts on my new 2021 X5M. I harpooned them for being cheap and deleting the sunroof shade in alcantara and the media storage for music files. I mentioned that they are no longer a proper luxury brand by being so cheap on a vehicle that cost easily over 100K. I also mentioned that dealers were never made aware of the changes/deletions for the 2021 model year.

Now that's not right. First the US X5M folks don't get the ambient lighting in the sunroof (sky lounge) when everyone else in the world does. (a 65K X5 40i comes with it) Now they change the cover material as well. Whats next?

I live outside North America and i ordered the night blue alcantara headliner.. Mine does not have it.

The Alcantara moonroof cover seems to be removed across all models of x5. Its ridiculous.

For the model year of 2021 all USA customers are getting hosed. We had a thread on this months back when the idiotic changes were made. In other words the word was to buy a 2020 or skip the 2021 model year and wait for 2022. Some of the top tier options were even removed from the 7 series like night vision, ambient air, rear entertainment for 2021 meaning the 5 series was really getting gutted.

I never read of anyone starting a claim. But I would certainly do it.

At the end of the day CEO and board members work for the shareholders. Whatever is most profitable typically wins out. Enthusiasts we are the most proud and loudest group but trust me BMW would rather sell more cars that appeal to the masses then our small enthusiast sub set

Case in point new M3/M4 AWD 4100lbs - porker but likely has creature comforts of a 7 series
