iPhone 15 and iDrive 8.0 and 8.5

Been holding off on 2024 X5 on the sole basis of iPhone and CarPlay issues. Is the new iPhone in its various versions any better in its integration?

I wouldn't hold off due to that. We have folks with a later version of iD8.5 reporting that they are not having any issues with CarPlay so the problems may already be fixed.

I still have 8.0 and no issues with 15 Pro Max. The IOS upgrade has been a better CarPlay experience.

I've had 8.5 for about a month, and both iOS 16 and now 17 on my iPhone 14 Pro, with zero problems on CarPlay, either connection or switching between apps. I've had a couple of other issues with my 50e but nothing with CarPlay. FYI

You’re holding off in buying a new X5 because of potential iPhone and CarPlay problems? Perplexing to say the least.

Perplexing. On the 8-series forum and guessing elsewhere people held off due to the lack of B&W (RAM module shortage) in 2022 but that's a different animal. I have two BMWs that both seamless support CarPlay and Android Auto. Granted for one I'm on iD8 vs iD8.5 that apparently introduces CarPlay connectivity issues.

Never use either unless a tricky nav situation (now <2%) in which the BMW nav doesn't know the destination. Then I'll either use CarPlay or Android Auto plus Google Maps to get me there. Otherwise I could care less about either and ultimately without either I still have Google maps on both my iOS and Android phones.

It's not perplexing at all. I straight refused to buy a BMW when CarPlay was a subscription. I use Android Auto / CarPlay for all my navigation and media. Entering destinations by voice is a big deal for me, and yes I tried it on BMW. This integration was one of the first things I checked on a test drive and it worked great. Instrument cluster and HUD support as well.

I don't think there are vast problems or else there would be 1000's of comments. The problems here look about the same as other vehicles. Hard to diagnose problems with certain phones.
