On the 3rd attempt I managed to get though Remote 3D view successfully, but all I get is the grey background.
All previous images are also grey.

They already did. The My BMW app. I don't know if you can download it in the UK. I think it was only available in Germany Netherlands and Belgium. But it will replace the CD app worldwide.

The new app is waiting for the 3D functionality to be activated. Maybe that is the problem. That they will stop with the CD app.

Heavyd did you install the new My BMW app? I am using it but not for the 3D because it is not functioning. Could this make the difference?

I have the My BMW app. What do you mean with could this make the difference?
I'm rather clueless why they release a new app with only a fraction of the functionality implemented and no timeline on when those functionality will be activated.

I just saw this while updating my app. Looks like there is an issue with iOS 14 and they are still working on a solution.

I thought that maybe having the new app installed could make a difference for the iPhone settings or something like that.

It would be better if they made the "coming soon" parts available.

I think that's the pilot release available only in very few countries.

Why would you release a new app if all features are not functioning? Yes it looks fancy, but makes no sense when the older app does more then the new one!

This is why I kept the old app as well as the new one - at least now with the 3D remote view not working I guess that makes both apps the same! lol

BMW Connected App to be replaced by My BMW App. As of September 25, 2020 the My BMW App is not showing up in Canadian App store.

Remote 3D started working

Remote 3D view started working now.
I think it's more of iOS issue. It started working once I upgraded to iOs 14.2 beta 2.

Even the old pictures in gallery are now rendering properly.

But my vehicle still appears Grey, I guess it will revolve once I upgrade my iDrive to 2020/07.xx

I got a call from BMW Connected Drive support. They said it's a known issue and it would be resolved with the iOS 14.2 update.

I think this will be available somewhere in October?

How about Android users?
Also, is there a way to get notified if it senses movement/hit/etc? Like remote notification and record what's going on around the car following the motion?

No, the cameras are not active when the car is sleeping.

I see, that's a shame, could be a great feature, I think Tesla does that.

Yes, Tesla has Sentry mode.. Tesla also drains its battery while it stays parked.

But yes, it would be nice if the car could keep the cameras active all the time. I wonder how much the side cameras can actually see - aren't they pointing down?

Side mirror cameras in combination with front and rear cameras are each nearly 180 degree fisheyes, good enough to give you a decent 360 surround view (hence the name).

And yes, it would be nice to have the option for drive recorder-like function to keep cameras on past car lock for, say, 20-30% of full battery drain — that should give at least an hour or two and cover many parking situations. But BMW knows better than its customers, so no.

It's interesting that BMW can't implement that. Battery drain is valid excuse but if you can buy low voltage cut off for aftermarket dash cams, they could have implemented it easily.

Also, it doesn't need to record all the time. Just keep the motion sensor powered, if it senses a bump or hit, activate cameras and record for 30 seconds or 1 minute, maybe we can catch the hit and run driver.

How does remote 3D view work, you can see the cameras when the car is off?

To accomplish pre-record (a few seconds prior to trigger event, a common practical necessity), it needs to record all the time, hence the battery concern.

Yes, you can trigger the app to take a remote 3D view and it even works sometimes. Wish I could show you remote 3D view from the BMW Connected app, but alas, I am on iOS 14.0.1 so the views are all grey for me right now. Here is someone else's random example.
