Rear Axle Overheat Warning

Has anyone had a “Rear axle overheat” warning show up? We did, and now are awaiting an new rear differential (from Germany). I searched the forum and couldn’t seem to find another one. We have a 2019 X5 50i.

Don't have an X5 yet, but never had any "rear axle overheat" issues with any of my cars.

Did it show up under normal driving conditions or where you towing something?

Normal driving. Never towed anything. Service guy had never seen it before. It’s my wife’s car. Driven super easy. Weird.

It's nice to know there's a sensor for that!

Garage List
Can happen with 4WD differentials frequently driving through high water crossings and not being lubed, but haven't heard of this in an X5 and actually, I suspect not enough of them are driven off-road for the problem to commonly crop up, if ever. Routine check on my GX460/470s in Idaho, but never a concern on any strictly on-road X5s I've owned.
