Thank you again for taking the time to speak with me today regarding the Safety Recall on your 2021 X5 BMW.

As we discussed, your safety is important to us and we wanted to advise you that it’s important that you do not plug in your vehicle for charging. You can continue to drive the vehicle; however, it must be driven in hybrid mode only, please do not use sport mode or use the shift paddles, if equipped, as this will charge the battery.

Important Note: It is recommended that you drain the high-voltage battery. The following instructions are for your specific model:

Using iDrive, go to Settings > Driving mode > Battery Control > Set or leave the charging state at 30%.

At this time, a remedy to repair your vehicle is currently under development. You will receive a notification letter in the next two weeks via First-Class Mail advising you of this safety recall. A second letter will be sent when a remedy becomes available advising you to schedule an appointment to have the recall repair performed at an authorized BMW center.

Should you need to reach me, please email or call me at 1-855-269-3361, Monday through Friday from (8 a.m.) to (6 p.m.) Eastern Time.

We care about your safety and are sorry for any inconvenience this recall may cause.

Thanks again for your time

Statistically looking at it. I should get £700($840). I don’t see a fix until November. Also 20Mpg (US) with 18 gallon tank, that’s 360 miles, I hope, as I have be running on pure electric since delivery. I do around 150-200 miles per week. I normally charge it 4-6 times a week, with an average of 35miles in EV mode. The £350 should fill the vehicle around 5 times, which is more than I need.
The alternative, normally is a loaner vehicle, which you would still have to pay fuel & X5s will give around 18-24mpg (us), so his £350 payment per month isn’t too bad. Only if you do a lot of miles then it will affect you. But, if you were putting on a lot of miles, here in the UK the X5 40d was a better option.

I see compensations proposed in other countries (US, UK). To BE people, anything on our side yet?

I wasn't aware that they switched to two-tone paint jobs though. My wife was upset that the hood and roof are white....
Congrats! I plan to take delivery with two tone paint job too and probably with the interior wrap too

BMW NA sent a note back and said vehicles between Feb - Sept 2020. Includes all their PHEV in BMW and Mini.

X5 45e specs back up

The 45e specs now show up again. Noticed when configuring the towing option now, it state 5952 lb instead of 7200 lb when i bought mine in July. This isn't a spec but just wonder if someone has the old specs to see if anything has changed.

YAY. My x5 is trackable via 2wglobal now (order on 19th of September. And my dealer said the production week was W42). It’s in Charleston at the moment and the ship to Zeebrugge is tomorrow (24th). Though, I wonder why the port of discharge is in Belgium? I’m from Finland and I thought it ought to be Bremerhaven.

In my case, the ship stopped in Bremerhaven first (for several days) and then continued to Zeebrugge. The car stayed there for two weeks before it was shipped back to Bremerhaven and then to Hanko in Finland. It took well over two months from Charleston (12 Sep) to Finland. The car is now waiting for ceramic coating and winter tires and I should get it next week.

Just curious, are you waiting for a 45e? With the time line explained above, are your car not affected by the recall? When was your build date?

Yes, 45e. Build date "2020-09-02". It was put on the recall list (https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/footer/quic...e-recalls.html) September 26 but removed October 6.

That's good news. Seems like you past the tail end of the recall end date just by a few days then.

But the dates of the new recall (impurities in the battery cells) affect my car - that's why it was on the recall list for a while, I believe.

According to the schedule, the ship my car is going to be on is also going to Bremerhaven first.

Will coating be done by your dealer?

I decided not to buy tires from my dealer, but from a tire shop instead. I’ve already ordered them and will just handle the tires to them to be changed.

Also, I plan to visit a detailing center that has always applied ceramic coatings to my car. It’ll be way better and cheaper than allowing a car dealer to do that as they outsource that anyway.

And the last question - how did you track your car till Hanko? Did you ask your manager to provide details?

Anyone been in touch with their dealers in last day or two for any juicy update on the recall issue and the way forward? I know that there is this famous Tuesday meeting globally every week so I was curious if anyone had gotten any update post this Tuesday week meeting from their dealer. I am so tired of this waiting time.

The coating will be done by another company, but the price through the dealer was less than what I paid for the coating for my X1, so I thought it's ok and saves me from the trouble. The detailer is located in the same building as the dealer, so I don't have to drive to car anywhere (and get it dirty) before the coating has been applied.

I didn't know which boat the car was on to Hanko, I just got some updates from my dealer ("the car will leave Zeebrugge soon" "the car is in Hanko" "the car is here"). I am trying to be a grown up and wait patiently until the car is ready ;-)

I got a call from the dealer yesterday - they are expecting the test software end of the month and then the car will be checked. Subject to this being successful it will be released for delivery. If not... no one knows...

Thanks a lot. Let's hope this is correct and that the procedure is successful in the end. Then a lot of us will be relieved finally from this painful wait.
