One would think if BMW is aware of the issue and it is a major one then they would be implementing the fix on the newly build cars or they would just halt 45e production until they have a fix in place.

My understanding is the batteries are Samsung batteries and the PHEV tech is toyota, so in theory that's been around for awhile, but the applications and assembly would be new. The "impurities in the battery" could be worrisome as this can be the thing that starts fires: essentially the impurities can form little stalactites which grow between the plates and once they get big enough to punch through they short circuit the battery. To be clear I have absolutely no idea if that's what's going on here, just expanding on a post I read that mentioned the recall may be due to battery impurities. |

My guess is substandard quality control. Like the hood of my car is completely misaligned. I totally don't get it that this can leave a factory. And a lazy ass welding robot that leaves welding beads on the battery Not to mention the wrinkles |

1) I'm seeing the dealer and I can ask for more info, typically people tend to tell you more when you are face to face. 2) while I'm there, I can go see my new X5 and start drooling. And probably right after that I'll start crying |

On at least one of the problems, it was a QA/QC issue where the welds in the battery compartment were not ground down, leaving a potential sharp point that could pierce a battery under some circumstances. Charging the batteries warms them, and they expand a bit.

found this document on FB group "BMW X5 45e"
seems to be an internal email regarding the PHEV recall. Quality is not the best, but I was able to read it :-)

I just received a partial update from my dealer in BE. They mentioned that not all vehicles recalled are automatically affected. The check will happen back in Zeebrugge. This means that if your car is already at the dealer, it needs to be transferred back by truck... This is usually happening gradually. No clear prio defined. Since the solution has not yet been communicated internally, it can take weeks to check/solve. In the meantime, they’ll provide mobility solution. OK,... I’ll accept a temporary M4 please 😉

for what it's worth, mine was affected by the first recall program (bad welding) and got tested OK at Zeebrugge. The car got discharged on Aug 24th and I took delivery of it on Sep 11th...

Just came back from my dealer. No news really, no complaints whatsoever about the dealer (they were really helpful) but it seems they are also stuck between a rock and a hard place. They had not received further instructions from BMW besides "don't release the new cars and ask everyone else to stop using their battery" and I have no reason to believe they were holding anything back.
This is also consistent with the document posted earlier by Rosso77 , the answer on Q8 ("The remedy is currently being developed") is not very reassuring. The worst thing is that my car is there, on the parking lot, waiting for me . Guess I'll have to be patient... breathe in ... breathe out .... |

So I'm still scheduled for pick up of my 45e tomorrow morning. So far, no word from the dealer, but I guess it's just a matter of time. I think I can rule out the dealer having checked the car already and gotten a clear..
