My insurance also went up a little in the last 2 to 3 years because they automatically added my wife to the policy. No way around it. She’s in the house hold they assume at one point or another she will drive.

That’s really high! Any accidents or moving violations? That’s usually when they jack the price up like that. Maybe your age as well. If your in your 20’s or 30’s they will jack that price up.

I know when I've ran quotes on switching carriers, some will see a Windshield Claim and not offer a quote as such. I would think on the MBI vs. Extended Warranty, the extended warranty is slightly in ones favor since it won't show up on a Clue Report |

My friends insurance went up a lot when he turned 70, no accidents or speeding tickets. He was in the insurance business. says it's common with some carriers, you need to shop around, get a broker.

But having it on Clue report increase the premium even it was not at fault-claim? If it goes up, would it be blocked by Geico Accident forgiveness status? |

My take, even let's say with glass coverage and you make a claim....the carrier will surcharge you even though it's not listed on a surcharge on any annual renewal forward.
I was with Geico. I cross shop insurance every 2 years if premiums trend up. I usually tend to switch every 3-5 years depending on how fast rate hike happens. In one instance, I recall the competing insurance carrier seeing a Windshield Claim and it was a hard pass for them without even quoting. Hence, with MBI, I don't know if it will go to your Clue Report or not but why risk it . Especially if the goal is $$$ OOP past the 4 year German in house warranty, where things get expensive. I get that MBI main draw is it cost less than the 3rd party extended. I suppose if anyone on this thread has used Geico's MBI, maybe order a free CLUE report and report back on whether or not a MBI repair shows up Last edited by chefwong; 02-13-2024 at 08:35 PM.. |

My insurance has increased back in August and then again this month. No moving violations or tickets. 2022 X6MC with just under 13k miles to date. When I called USAA to challenge them on this back in August, I was told it was due to taxes increase in NYC.
When I saw it went up again this month, I see now it's definitely time to shop around for a new carrier offering incentives for new costomers. Changing carriers worked for my motorcycle insurance about 2 years ago. NOT about to deal with rate increases every 6 months.

crabman just bumped this thread ....slight change of POV on rate shopping since the industry is upside down...
Some carriers are not underwriting for certain make on new accounts in NY...Progressive:BMW as a current example So be mindful doing the new customer flip-flop as you don't want to be in a situation where you can't come back to carrier X on the next time around and stuck with B rated carriers as your only option depending on who's currently underwriting makes:location at the current time |

Let's say you're with Progressive currently.
You switch to Geico or State Farm due to better rates. 2-3 Years from now, you decide to Switch back to Progressive.... At this current time, Progressive is not underwriting new customers with BMW's in NYC - not sure about NY as a whole. So in theory, 2-3 years from now, Progressive may not a option to switch back if a BMW or whatever they are not underwriting for is in your fleet. |

USAA, 1500 a year, cheaper than the S580 I turned in. No accidents, no claims, no tickets.
