My 2021 40i Order
(Note: It arrived on Sept. 9. See my later post.)
I've agreed on price with a dealer and the order will be going in soon, if not already. Here is how I decided to configure it. I was back and forth between this and an M50i, but decided I'd be happier with the 40i for many non-performance based reasons that I learned quickly not to bring up on this forum! Respect to those w/ the M50i - it's an awesome vehicle. I also decided not to go with the spare, preferring the extra cargo space. I know that sticks me with run-flats, but I'm OK with that. Anything here that I've overlooked or should be configured differently? I debated a bit on whether to do air suspension, but again with the theme of the use of this car, it's another handy thing (deep snow in winter or lowering it for loading stuff). 2021 X5 xDrive 40i 416 - Carbon Black VATQ - Merino Extended - Tartufo 4KT - Anthracite-Brown Poplar Matte ZDY - Driver Pro Pkg ZPK - Park Assist ZMP - M Sport 2VR - 2 Axle Air Suspension ZPX - Executive Pkg. ZLS - Lux Seat 1XN - 21" Wheels (M-Y Style) 2NH - M Sport Brakes (Blue) 3AC - Trailer Hitch 4HA - F&R Heated 4HB - Heated Seats

Only comment is confirming with your dealer that 4T7 Massaging is also included. Looks like BMWNA has reversed course and kept 4T7 in MY21 ZLS package versus making it additional cost option in the earlier release of the MY21 ordering and pricing guides.

Congratulations. Good luck, enjoy and be safe. I would highly suggest you get the spare. For $150 it is worth it since you may decide the extra cargo space is not always needed. Besides that, you can always sell it given the cost of buying it afterwards is very high. Can you comment on the non-performance reasons? The reason I ask is that I'm leaning heavily towards an M50i for my next one. This is a discussion forum so pros and cons are always welcome. |

You do loose the storage space under the cargo but best $150 I spent - and extremely costly to add later.

OK - I'm sold. I emailed the dealer and added it. They're going to put the order in on Monday.
To Turtle's question on why 40i, I'd just say it is purely lifestyle based. This has to be my daily driver and between harsh winters and two kids, it would stress me out too much on the M50i since I'm planning long-term (5 yrs +) ownership. Plus, 95% of my driving is in the burbs. Totally a personal choice. Unconstrained from my OCD brain, I'd get the M50i.

I negotiated more than 6% off MSRP before incentives, but it didn't come easily. I basically collected initial offers from multiple dealers then I went back and forth a few times insisting on no less than 1% additional each time (to avoid small numbers or offers to match last deal). I did that until there was only one dealer left. I don't want to comment too much on the specific deal, because it's not done yet. I plan to finance so I need to make sure I get the proper rate and there are no other surprises. But, you should be able to do better than 5% without too much effort on a '21.

Get the spare tire. For $150, it's worth it. In Canada, we cannot order the spare for whatever stupid reason. With all the individual part list to build one will cost me well over $1000...
If you don't want yours, I can buy from you. Just figure out a way to ship to Montreal here.... |

It's here!
It arrived today. So far, so good. It's been a long time since my last BMW so I have a lot to figure out but I love the way it drives.

Beauty! I'm looking at a very similar build. Two quick questions:
1) I understand that the space saver spare uses all of the space under the load deck. Does it also elevate the deck? 2) You went with ZLS (Lux Seating) @ $1k. Did it also include the messaging seats? For MY21 this is an add on to ZLS, but there has been some confusion as the BMW configurator lists them as a single $1600 option. |
