it also rolls up and down a lot slower than the non laminated regular glass (although that would be hard to compare unless you had another x5 nearby).

The ones in our vehicles have an acoustical interlayer that helps with the noise reduction. It varies slightly depending on the glass manufacturer but most offer 3db to 9db reduction in the "wind noise" frequency spectrum. The manufacturers that I saw all show their glass (standard vs acoustic) as the same thickness so in actuality the acoustic glass is same thickness but most likely slightly lighter since part of the glass volume is replaced by the acoustic interlayer.

As above, easiest way is to look for the markings or run your finger over the open edge of the window - it will feel slightly rough, almost like an unfinished surface.
