Does your iPhone overheat in the charger?
My iPhone overheats whenever I have it charging for more than about 20 minutes. It also does it in my wife's 640i, so it's not just an X5 issue. I have an iPhone 5SE, which doesn't support wireless charging, but I've added an aftermarket charger adapter that allows it to charge wirelessly. As I said, I can only do it in the vehicle for up to 20 minutes. At home, it charges wirelessly on the the charging pad without any problem. I'm curious if upgrading to a newer iPhone would resolve this issue? I don't mind spending the money if it would, but I'm happy enough with my phone that I don't want to upgrade if doing so would make no difference.
So I'm interested in your experiences (iPhone only): 1. Does your iPhone overheat in the car? 2. Which model iPhone do you have? Thanks. |

iPhone X here - It doesn't overheat in the sense that it goes into cool down mode but it does get extremely hot. It also barely adds any charge to the battery. If I'm using Waze at the same time it may actually still drain power.

Is it possible to permanently disable the wireless charging? my wife’s brand new Honda minivan has wireless charging but you cannot disable it permanently you can go to settings and turn it off but each time you start the car it comes back on

I do not remember my iPhone X in a Vaja case getting too hot in the G05 charger. This morning it was in the charger maybe 25 minutes.

I don't use the wireless charger anymore. My iPhone X overheats to the point of shutting down maybe once an hour on long road trips while using CarPlay. First it slows down majorly, and then it shuts itself off. I have to crank down AC and hold the phone in front of the vent to cool it off. Happens with or without the case.
I think it might just be placement of the charging pad in a location that gets no ventilation. My old Yukon had a charging tray on top of the center console which was much easier to access and also would charge the phone through the case and not overheat it. |

Every time I use it, the wireless charge tray heats up my iPhone X .. I haven't seen it shut down but one time I took it off the tray, it was super hot, and behaved erratically for 10 mins (disconnecting and reconnecting to CarPlay, touch response not working or glitching heavily, etc). Pretty sure if I leave it on tray a long time it's gonna eventually shut down.

Your phone shouldn't overheat via a 5W wireless charger.
Potential causes: 1. Very thick case => leads to lower efficiency ie more heat 2. using more power or equivalent power to what's going in so it gets hot 3. Ambient temperature is high or the device was already warm from outside or high usage I've only had the issue when my phone was already hot but it never overheated. I've used wireless charging for 7 years now on my Android devices, most recently an S9+.

I don't use a case on my iPhone XS Max... haven't had an overheating issue and it has stayed on the wireless charger for hours... It's warm when I pick it up but no more than normal like when I put it on a Qi charger at the house. I do also swipe up to dismiss Apple Pay when I get it bc if the screen stays on it will get hot.

Wireless charging creates induced magnetic fields so it won't affect your credit cards

I noticed if you feel along the edge of the center console right behind/above the cup holders, it seems like there is a vent there. Not sure if this is connected to a duct with fan-driven air, but if so, there may be a software opportunity to divert more air to the charging tray area to prevent phone overheating. Mine has the heated/cooled cup holders so not sure if that is the same for all G05s.

Just looked and my loaner doesn't have it. If I remember correctly, it's right behind the cool/heat buttons for the cup holders (like toward rear of vehicle). In that gap between the top of the cup holder and the wood trim.
