I love the air suspension in my 45e. Best drive I ever had comparing to previous owned X5 and X6. And yes it's necessary in the third world banana republic I live in.

I just returned home. First time I did Reims Brussels by Charleroi (speaking of third world). I was very happy with the AS. Worst highway I encountered during my trip through the south of France and the Alps.

It's just legalized murder by the government. I would like to see the figures of fatalities that are the result of the crappy roads in Belgistan. Also bikers and bicyclists. |

Mine is the 40i Xdrive with M adaptive, when we tested the cars, my wife didn't like the soft of the air susp, she just don't like anything feel soft, you know it. Even for now, when she drove the x5, she always clicked the sport button to select the firm suspension setting as what she did when she drove my M3.

Comparing the two suspension is apples to oranges - air springs/struts versus steel springs/struts. If you want sportier ride, get the Adaptive M. You are giving up some of the sportier ride for the flexibility to control ride level in various road and weather conditions and terrains but can gain some of the loss back by lower the ride height to Sport level. 9.4.5. 2–axle Air Suspension (SA 2VR) Due to the two-axle ride level control, there are no adverse effects whatsoever on comfort. The driving characteristics can be modified in the usual manner via the Driving Experience Control. Includes a level change rocker button which allows the customer to set 5 different ride heights in total from –40 mm to +40 mm.

"Air suspension - feels like a Mercedes Benz
Adaptive suspension - feels like a BMW " Not true. The best combo short of DHP (which uses air suspension btw) is the air suspension with Integral Active Steering. That is the sportiest combo you can achieve short of DHP and is FAR more versatile and comfortable than M suspension.

System that was available on the G05 in all models until they just deleted it for 2021 (although it is also part of DHP). It turns both the front and rear wheels in different situations.

Ooooh, you meant the integral active steering. For a minute there I thought I've missed another option from the list when I was spec'ing my car

Integral Active Steering (aka IAS as the common forum folk usually call it...or HSR as BMW refers to it)...is an optional rear wheel steering system. Here's a link to the TIS that describes how it functions: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/g...rol/1VnYao5rwH

My M package with adaptive suspension is fabulous in "comfort" mode.
Not a fan of air suspension. Very expensive to repair/replace. |

The Adaptive M does not lower the vehicle at all. That suspension is exactly the same as the xLine suspension except for the tuning.

My apologies you are correct for standard height. I was referring to driving, it will lower it when you get above certain speed to improve handling by lowering the chassis

That is not correct, the M Adaptive suspension does not lower with speed. It is the Air suspension that will lower above a certain speed, I think 86 mph.
