Electric range 45e

Had 95 km electric range after 100% charge. I doubt if it will make it this far on pure electric tomorrow.

I did a lot of 70 km/h drives the last days. Temperatures were optimal.

Always sceptical about these estimated ranges. (btw the smart key and the Connected app rarely display the same range with me)

Started with 68km yesterday. After a 7km (electrical) drive on small roads the range had dropped to 51km.

On the other hand I experienced the opposite behaviour as well. Sharp drop of range in the beginning only to flatten out for a while.
ex. First a drop from 60km to 35km in range for the first 10km driven. And then the range hovers between 35km -30km for the next 15km you drive.

Effective driven km. My daily comute is 60km and in the winter it was just perfect. When it is really cold then the last 2 km the ICE jumps in. In the summer the value of 5-8 km is left on the meter when arriving at home.

95 km with 20,9 KWh usable in the battery, that means an average of 0.22kwh/km... that seems really low!
I never reached those numbers, 0.30 has been my best value.

That is in pure elctric mode, in hybrid and accelerating on the ice and only doing constant low speeds on battery that number seems doable.

I have seen the same indicated range (60 miles here in the UK), but have seen 52 miles at most from a full battery (83km). Seeing as I think that is that the max. WLTP says, I'm pretty happy

The most I've ever seen is 50 miles. Dropped pretty quickly though. I think I've averaged 36.6 kWh/100km over about 2000 miles.

My electric range varies from 45 to 60km when fully charged.

BUT

It depends on your right foot and the type of roads you have driven.

- I drive mostly full throttle on very short drives in pure electric mode. I don't care about fuel-economy, since i always plug it in when i arrive at home (solar energy)

- 1200 of the 1400km total were driven on very small drives of 1-10 km local roads, never at a constant speed.

Whenever I do a stretch of highway (50-60kms), immediately my electric range goes up to >70km's on the next full charge.

this seems very theoretical - how much of the 95km or 89km did you effectively drive in electrical mode on the same charge? could you really reach these figures ?

To my knowledge, it's based on the previous trip. Mine was a straight 30 km drive at 80 km/u with driving assistant. No stops or turns, so in that pace, it would have been possible to achieve the 89 km. In normal traffic with lots of stops, it wouldn't. In normal traffic it's about 65 km for me.

USA EPA published this:
As a result, electric-only range doubles from a previous EPA rating of 14 miles to a new EPA estimated 30-mile range. Electric-only top speed increases from 75 mph to 84 mph.

40 miles range works for me but 30 is not acceptable to my daily driving.
Hope to see more USA based reports from first owners.

I was going to replace my I3 with the X5 45A. In Europe users are easily getting 40 to 45 miles real range. It appears in the US BMW has decided to software restrict the battery to 17 KW vice the 21 KW usable in Europe. I really hope this rumor is not true and will watch as the US version hits the street this month. If true the car will no longer be a consideration as a replacement for the I3.

40-45 miles is doable in the summer when driving 50-60 mph. At highway speed and especially in the winter it can be less. If you pre Heath the battery and cabin it is better.

I saw some US info that say it has a 24 KwH battery and 20,8 KwH usable. I hope for you guys it is because that is perfect.

Deliveries of the 45e in the US began a week or so ago. Have not seen any info from the owners in regards to range yet.

Edit: I found a post where the owner's first electric range was 24 miles but that appears to be estimated and not actual.

I've driven 2500 km in my g05 45e, had a F30 330e (hybrid) before that.

I usually avarage around 28-33 kwh/100 km. This equates to about 70 km (21 (kwh) / 30 (kwh/100km) x 100 (km)) which is what I got the three times I went from 100 - 0 (5?)% going 40 - 80 km/h, no highway. I've gotten 75 km max. All these values when ambient temperature was about 0-5 dgrs Celsius.

Not a rumor and it's true, it's in the spec sheet.

Scroll down to Battery capacity, gross (net) - kWh - 24 (17.06)

I also considered the 45e but I carrying an extra 7kWh of dead battery capacity doesn't help efficiency. They didn't say why it's limited this low but it could be that they saw huge degradations. They offer 8yr or 80,000 miles of warranty so this helps them not have to replace batteries for free?

Had to do a 41-42 km drive and return home. Only 50 and 70 km/h road no high way. I wanted to try to do it electric only. Outside 22 Degr C inside airco on 21. Hybride eco pro setting. Pre conditioning before leaving.

Just didn't make it because I missed and had to do a small detour.

Total 83,9 since charging. And my total range above 1000 km/h.

Quite good results. But very boring.

As for the last couple of km the battery was empty anyway I put it in sport. Much better feeling. But those 2 km in sport have the mean fuel efficiency of 0.9 l/100 km in stead of 0.

11 h charging time from 4% (= empty = - - - km om the dashboard) to 100% on the standard home Bmw cable charger on 10A.

USA Owner Electric Range

I have been able to get close to 40 miles on electric only, but not if it is mostly at 70 MPH (more like low 30s at 70 mph.) I get better range at lower speeds (40-60) and the battery does pretty well in normal traffic if you are careful about anticipating traffic, lights, etc. It has been 85-90 degrees which also helps. My favorite mode so far is Hybrid Eco Pro which works great when you input your whole trip into the Nav system. I have hit ZERO electric range in my driveway twice doing that. A couple of things I have discovered: You can "top up" the battery by reconnecting the charger after a hour or so. It gives you (at least on the screen) 1-2 extra miles. Also, you can adjust the amperage that your car will accept. It is set at 6 A from the factory to keep people from overloading home sockets. The BMW supplied charger maxes out at 10 A at 120V and it takes 20 hours to a full charge. I have a Level 2 charger (Clippercreek AmazingE Fast) on order and that should do it in 8 hours (16 A max at 240 V). The regenerative breaking also helps with gasoline mpg in Hybrid mode, so even when the battery goes to "0" the hybrid system continues to give you a boost. I only have 495 miles (157 in electric mode) but so far the X5 45e does what I had expected.
