Imagine driving on a non-tar road like cement concrete. The noise your tires make as they go over the concrete like that pulse noise (thak..thak..thak..) - the acoustic glass is not going to reduce that since it is coming from your car underbelly.

Now imagine harley biker group overtakes you on both sides. You are definitely going to see a difference with your acoustic glass. So honks, nearby vehicle noise etc definitely is less pronounced. Noise generated by your tires - no.
The acoustic glass is not thicker. What makes it acoustic is the fact that it's actually two pieces of glass laminated together into a solid piece. Just like the windshield. That's it, nothing more to it.

For me the price for acoustic glass was 600€ so i didnt get it. I dont have a comparison but i feel quite well isolated inside. When im driving in pure electric (45e) sometimes i hear noises from inside the cabin: the belt touching the pillar on tight curves, or my son chair crackles, but thats the price of not hearing the engine.

BMWUSA "Build Your Own" clearly states: thicker glass on side windows and windshield.

It also mentions the front windshield which is not included in the option so not sure much it can be trusted. It may be thicker but the sound proofing comes from the lamination and the middle layer.

There hasn't been any expected updates on availability. There are quarterly production build updates that get announced - next one could be Dec or January for April 21 production.
