The 7/20 update has eliminated all those necessary nav options which has to be an error. There's no way to plug in an address other than voice commands...

I am on 3/2020/58 and thought about asking for 7/20 (before Sept driving trip) because I can no longer send destinations through Google Maps from my pc. Rather, the destination shows up in the car, but I cannot navigate to a destination sent by Google Maps.

However, I still have recent destinations, favorites and voice commands so you are saying that 7/20 removes even more of the nav function?

I badly need this to work going through several states with various hotels and the like. I also posted in a related thread about not getting OTA map updates for regions that I select.

Correct. This is all that shows up under the 7/20 software update. Nowhere to physically plug in an address nor a favorites menu.

To enter addresses just start typing them in search/where to.

For favourites, 'my destinations' combines recents and faves but can be filtered by 'favourites'

How much of the menu options shown below can still be found in the new submenus? I am also showing what happens even now when I sent a destination using Google Maps on my pc. All 4 categories (fave, address poi contacts) are consolidated into one, so it searches all in one go. More like a google search.

Favourites can be added the same as before, in app, web, or press the option button with an address selected to get the context menu

The Send to Car option from Google works the same way i.e. doesn't work. It sends to car but its not recognised as a NAV address, just a text message.

Thanks much for your insight. I will wait on trying to get 7/2020 as I want a familiar menu on the open road.

I was more than distracted about not being able to use Google Maps now as that has been the most convenient way for me to put in all the hotels when driving 3+K miles across many states. My typing is not so good on the iP BMW app and one must know the precise address to when using voice commands. When I said "Springfield Residence Inn" last week, it took quite a while to get the nav to go to Springfield, MO RI.

Maybe I need to rethink CP as I think someone reported that Google Maps now shows up in the HUD when using CP. Is that possible only when using iOS 13.xxx + 7/2020? If I must use CP, I wish Waze was in the HUD since Google Maps has few alerts about police radar and of course neither has automated detector alerts like EL.

It's Apple maps in hud with CP. You need Android Auto to get google maps in the hud unfortunately. Maybe it'll come to CP in the future.

The easiest way I find to add idrive locations is in the CD app or my BMW app. Either add as a favourite or send to car.

My combo is idrive in hud, TomTom in CP and Waze just running in background (not navigating) to pop up police/camera alerts in CP over TomTom

I don't know what escort live is - sounds dodgy lol, but Waze makes an audio alert and displays a brief banner on the idrive CP screen. This appears whether Youtube Music, Youtube, TomTom, Plex etc are running.

I have taken the thread off-track, but just to end this part here is a page about how one uses EL with the likes of a $750 Escort Redline 360c. I prefer it to Waze which depends on human input, whereas Escort detectors send their Ka, Ka, and Lidar alerts to the cloud to share with other EL users:

My car (2019 X5) still can't find the over the air software update when I search for it. I am currently on the 3/2020 update. I bought this car in May 2020, and it required a trip to the dealer to get the 3/2020 update, as it was on some old mid 2019 software version before that. The dealer at that time speculated that it wasn't able to update over the air because it was on such old software, and thought that it should be good for receiving regular updates over the air now. Well, it looks like it still doesn't work. Any reasons why this could be happening? I don't feel like taking this car to the dealer every time there is a new software update. I would really like to get over the air updating working properly.

I don't believe anyone has reported receiving 03/2020.xx OTA yet and certainly not 07/2020.xx. Current theory is that OTA will be at least 1 major release behind current major version ("n-1" protocol), which actually makes a fair bit of sense in the context of how BMW versions and releases its car software. But even that delay seems suspect at this point, it might end up being "n-2" or worse or random. For example, Canada just started to receive 11/2019.xx in Aug 2020.

I left my car with the dealer to prepare for major driving in two weeks. When I tried to illustrate this problem, we discovered that 1 of 3 destinations that were in BMW messages actually works. The SA says that feature works fine in his wife's X3.

The difference for the 1 of 3 attempts that worked in my G05 was that two were sent form my pc to the 'car' whereas the one that worked was sent to my 'iPhone' to use with CP. It shows up under BMW messages as a 'text' messages, but you can click on it to 'start guidance'.

Has anyone else see this happen?
