45e Drivetrain Malfunction -- Reduced Engine Performance
Went to pick up our 45e yesterday, and as I was rolling the car out of the showroom, the error message, "energy management, drivetrain malfunction, reduced engine performance, may continue driving" Etc. message came up.... Didn't even take the car out of the building.
Anyone have any experience with this recently? Huge buzzkill, but I am sure the issue will be solved today. |

I have had it several times and always goes away with a restart of the car. I took it in after the first couple times and the dealer replaced a module. It did not stop the messages from popping up every once in awhile. I get about 6 error messages and limp mode. Mine is a '22 m50i picked up in November. There are a couple posts in the engine section. I am wondering if it is an issue with the latest software they are using.

If you guys are repeatedly seeing it, have it documented with dealer visits. You may want to lemon the car at some point, as the next buyer of your car may not think lightly of it. And I'm not sure why any of you are tbh. It's not expected - there's something actually wrong with cars exhibiting this.

I had to stop in at the dealer to show them the codes when it happened because they go away as soon as I turn off the vehicle. I do not know whether they are saved somewhere, but I got the impression that perhaps they are not.
They had my car for 10 days to change the accelerator module, only to have the same thing happen again. I thought about the Lemon Law implications, but I really do not think there is anything wrong with the car. I drove it three trips yesterday and 250 miles. It was fine until the short drive home, when the codes popped up. I turn it off and back on and everything is fine. |

I picked up my 45e on 12/31. The dealer had barely charged the high voltage battery. There was an orange wrench illuminated on the instrument cluster and a message about "drivetrain malfunction/may continue to drive" on the touchscreen.
They told me it was because the charge was too low and the message would go away after it was fully charged. It disappeared after reaching 100% charge and has not come back. |

I took mine into the dealer again. It coded as I was driving by the dealer and I stopped to show them the 7 codes it threw and that it was again in limp mode. They are talking with the BWM engineers and gave me a loaner to drive. Hopefully, they will get it fixed. Again, mine is not a 45e, but it had similar codes.
