2021 BMX X5 wrapped in Paint Protection Film

Located in Houston, this 2021 BMW X5 visited our shop to receive a partial-front ‘clear bra’ paint protection wrap. A ppf package that covers the front bumper, fenders, side mirrors, and the first half of the hood.
Basically all the at-risk areas where paint damage from rocks and dead bugs can occur.

Check it out and see if you can tell its wearing a 'clear bra' paint wrap.

I don't think anyone would be able to see the paint film wrap at the distance you took the photo from? How about showing us a picture within 3 feet of the wrap and then we can comment on what it looks like.

I don't think anyone could tell a vehicle was wrapped with just about any type of wrap at these distances.

As observed, clear film is indistinguishable from paint (or should be), except where the seams and edges are, and there are several. A good wash takes care of the "edge dust," and the main purpose is to protect the paint and plastic from micro-scratches and minor chipping. I've also found it easier to remove bug carcasses after a cruise. It won't protect from dents or the odd road-meteor chip, and I've never owned a car long enough, or removed one to detect if there's any difference in UV protection compared to just clearcoat - which would actually be a negative regarding paint uniformity. If you want to reasonably rock-proof your leading edge, you need a detachable bra:

are those still a thing in the areas that need them? Haven't seen one in forever but then perhaps haven't been to the right places to do so

They were a thing in Idaho, where they pave the roads by spraying down tar and gravel and allowing cars to roll it in.... Last MY for the X5 I could find with a simple search was 2018 (they do have G06), but WeatherTech has this:

https://www.weathertech.com/bmw/2019...bug-deflector/

Any detachable bra, BTW, may cause paint scratches from wear underneath, but less than deflecting rocks with your bare hood. I'm certainly not recommending them over PPF for general purpose, but for offroading they can be pretty essential - I had one on my GX all the time.

Probably more in the $6-8k range. A forum member got his done in XPEL matte and I think he posted it was $8k or so. I'm getting just the front of my M340i wrapped and the estimates for XPEL are in the $2k to $2,500 range.

I've gotten pretty good at fixing small scratches with buffing and deeper scratches with dr colorchip. Not that I even get that many to begin with. I'll save the $8k and only do ceramic coating so its still easy to wash and maintain.
I had the entire front, hood, pillars, front 6” roof, front 1/4 panels, and lower 6” along door all the way to rear, plus Ceramic Coat in it was ~$3400 US.

Definitely closer to $6K minimum for the whole car. Ceramic coating is great, but isn't going to prevent rock chips.

I did full PPF on my M2, but I'll live with a few rock chips on the X5.

Lower edge, I have a German Shepard that rides in the back and wanted a little extra protection against her claws.

Excuse the dirt (it does make it easier to see though), this is a closeup at the junction between the driver and rear door. As you can see it covers the bottom of the frame and ~4” of the lower door all the way around the rear wheel and to the rear bumper.

Just took delivery two weeks ago. XPEL film full front, full door coverage on all doors, and rocker panels. I added XPEL Fusion ceramic coating on all panels, glass, and wheels. $2500 for all the work. This was done in New England. There is a lot of markup for these products. I called the shop that contracts for the dealer, their retail for ceramic alone is $1500.

It depends on the vehicle sometimes. The Installer Locator Tool will help find the nearest certified XPEL installer near you and offer you the option to send them a request for a quote on your vehicle.

I transformed my OEM Arctic Grey 45e using XPEL stealth ppf. of course the entire vehicle needs to be wrapped. I'm in the U.S., so the federal tax incentive paid for it

That's an excellent price! Would you mind sharing which detailer you used? I'm in CT (Fairfield County) and currently looking at quotes for full front XPEL Ultimate plus rockers plus rear bumper. Of course just shoot me a PM if you prefer.
Thank you

I am doing full front and frontal side panels of Xpel PPF in mid June for a quote of $2050. Front driver and passenger window tint for $150 and powder coating the 740m wheels black for $800. I could certainly find cheaper places to powder coat the wheels, but this price includes dismounting the tires, powder coating wheels, and remounting tires and TPMS. All of this work will take 3 days.

Thank you for sharing: those are very good prices too: where are you having it done, if you don't mind me asking?

First quote I got from accredited XPEL detailer in CT is $3.7K for full front, rockers, splash guards, four door bottoms plus an extra $740 if I want to have the rear bumper wrapped too. Sounds on the high side.

I am across the country in Tacoma Washington, so probably not a great referral option.

Hehe, yes I guess by the time I get my X5 there I would have quite a few rock chips to fix before they even start wrapping her!
Thank you anyway!
