Seatbelt pretensioner tug

I believe the seatbelt tug once you drive off cannot be disabled, and I know it’s to take slack away which makes it safer, but how are other brands able to have effective seatbelt pretensioners without needing to do the manual tug? In the event of a collision, most modern cars have a great seatbelt tension safety process, but I can’t think of any others that give the tug when driving off each time. I just find it annoying and know BMW’s have done this for a while.

IMO, it is modern bmw trying to be fancy, un-necessarily . None other cars I have driven does this, including older bmws. I don’t mind that tug. I mind if one day that motor fails, can the car still be used without any warming or error which force me to have it fixed.

Agreed. It's marketing gimmick to make people feel safer.

This makes me chuckle when my Mum travels in my X5, when the seatbelt does it’s little tug pulling away she immediately pulls the belt back out and makes it much looser than it would have been had it not done the tug

I’ve given up telling her to not loosen the belt up, it’s a feature that in her case is counterintuitive and perhaps even less safe as now there is a lot more slack for it to have to take up in the event of a crash

Truth be told in the past I have always pulled up on my belt knowing it keeps it tighter and didnt want the lil'bit of sag that was left if I didn't.

Now it happens automatically and I still by habit, pull up on it. Im now training myself to just let it be.

It truely is for your safety!

It's not a tug, it's a hug. Your BMW is showing you how much it cares about you.

My 12YO daughter likes to say that the car is tucking her in when the seatbelt tugs.
