“I only clipped the corners next to the front clip of the light where the notch in the hole is.”
That should be all you need to do, so you should be good with that. Regarding the image projection hitting your door... Is it possible the black cylindrical light unit isn’t seated properly and is not pointing straight down, perpendicular with the ground? I’d unscrew the clear plastic outer lens ring and check that.

I’ve never seen this problem and I’ve done three cars (10 doors) with the part #63312414105. Last edited by MystroX5; 02-06-2021 at 09:01 AM.. |

@javapro mine looks pretty much the same as yours. I had to do exactly the same as you , just the front two corners needed trimming. The LED projection does touch the bottom of the door slightly but not enough to really distort the projected image. See attached pictures.
Other notes: 1) this is a 21 X6 40i with m sport 2) I used the OEM projectors : Part Number 63-31-2-468-386 3) this part shows as incompatible with my car, thus the reason for the very slight imperfection |

Thanks. Probably the doors are slightly of a different shape on X7.

All of these posts confirm my reasoning for not buying these projectors. They are "NOT" designed "Specifically" for the X5/X6/X7.
I think I'm just going to wait and see if BMW comes out with a set that's designed specifically for my vehicle. |

If you have all clear housing, that is Gen 1.. They released new style of Gen 2 door lights recently and can rotate image much easier.. problem is,... it wont fit well.. |

I did try part # 63-31-2-468-386 a few days back. It does not fit in the MY21 X5 light slot. As you can see in the picture, the notch size is different and is bigger than the light slot under the door. I did not attempt trimming the corners because a. I don't have the right tools and b. didn't want to damage it so that I couldn't even return it. The one in white is the stock that the vehicle came with, the darker one is the projector light I bought from BMW dealer parts store.
I tried the Amazon one, and it did not shine the way OEM does. Still looking for options.

For my latest/new X7 M50i, I actually searched out the gen 1 this past Sept as I have experience with them. There are a lot of them still out there.

So, does Gen 1 (part # 63312414105) fit better? @MystroX5, did you need to do any cutting with Gen 1? Can it be rotated while in the housing just like Gen 2 ((part # 63312468386)? I am not sure what @bimmerwerks meant by "can rotate image much easier" in Gen 2.

The more I read this post and see the pictures, the more I want these but I’ll wait to see if they come out with a version for my 2021 X5 M50i. What are opinions on the M vs the BMW version for a M50i?
Here’s another example of things I didn’t know I needed until I saw it! |

Yes it fits better and the slide rotates in the housing. I did a G05,G07 and a M2C all with the same projector model. You cant get anymore divers in models of the current BMW line up and the installation is the same. You just have to orientate the slide before popping the light all the way into the door pocket. This is maybe a 2 out of 10 difficulty level. Forget the gen 2 design. Leave it up to BMW to screw up a already proven oem part that fits all the current BMW models???? |

The slides for the gen 1 projectors look like little lollypops that you push on the stem once inserted in the light housing to rotate them back or forward 180 degrees depending on what looks best to you. I used a small flat head screw driver push one side of the stem of the slide to rotate the pic inside the housing. You do this one time and you will see how easy it is. My X7M50i took me 20 minutes to do all 4 doors from beginning to end and I was very ocd in the orientation of the image on the garage floor.

It should fit X5, just very tight fit. I asked my friend who has 21 X5 and said it just so tight but works fine |
