Digital Key Plus

Have any '24 owners gotten this feature to work so you don't have to take your phone out of your pocket to unlock the vehicle?

In my 50e, my Galaxy Fold 3 works fine as a Digital Key but it won't do anything until I hold the phone next to the door handle. I have confirmed that I do have UWB turned on in my phone's wifi settings.

so far, one iPhone user confirmed it works as claimed. another iPhone user has an outdated phone without UWB, so it doesn’t work for him. is your Galaxy among those listed for compatibility? it might be more than it just having UWB.

Looks like Android compatibly for Digital Key Plus was announced this morning. You probably have to get an iDrive update in order to have it work.

Samsung devices (running Android 13.1 or later): Galaxy S23+, S23 Ultra, S22+, S22 Ultra, S21+, S21 Ultra, Z Fold4, Z Fold3, Note20 Ultra (in markets with Samsung Wallet)

Do you see/did you saw the "Digital Key Plus" option in your My BMW app?

Yes, in my BMW app there's a line called BMW Digital Key Plus. Using the same BMW app but with my wife's 45e selected that same line just says BMW Digital Key.

My 50e is active in my Samsung Wallet but it wants NFC turned on and has said nothing about UWB.

Check your phone settings for UWB. I don't have an Android device with UWB but try to find some Settings for Connectivity in your phone. There should be a toggle somewhere, like for WIFI or BT enabling on the device.

Yes, I 've checked and it is turned off. I even turned it off and back on as a "reset". Still no joy.

With this enabled, it is probably as TurtleBoy mentioned, it will require waiting for your car OS update.

Also remember that Samsung Wallet is upgraded through the Galaxy store and not the Play store. I always forget to check there.

Does this work on MY22 vehicles? I never tried this before, but I have a compatible iOS device and email from 2021 says my car is compatible with BMW Digital Key or BMW Digital Key Plus.

No, Digital Key Plus is only available starting with the LCI. Assuming you didn't get caught in the shortages, the Digital Key should work.

Is there an official list of which BMW models have Digital Key Plus? The reason I ask is because I called BMW Genius to discuss this issue and they said the only models that have Digital Key Plus are the ix, the i4 and the xm.

Yeah, I had a hard time believing what he said. I'll try again tonight. I just updated my Samsung Wallet app in the Galaxy Store so maybe that will do it.

Thank you. I use Digital Key, but was excited after reading the Digital Key Plus news (some articles like Verge even said available on every vehicle produced after Nov 22). Oh well...

I have an iPhone 14 Pro + X5 50e... and Digital Key Plus works great.

I also have an Apple Watch so feel good about the redundancy in case I lose my phone while out driving. Though I haven't tested opening the car with Apple Watch only yet.

The ONLY concern I can see is getting so used to it that if i am ever driving around a city and valet the car, I will forget to bring a key for the valet. Maybe I'll leave a credit card key deactivated in the car for this kind of situation.

how will a deactivated keycard help you? it’s useless if not set up. when you find yourself in the above situation and want to use it, you can’t because you need both key fobs to activate it

you could activate the keycard and leave it in the vehicle for such occasion though, and I believe you can still enable valet mode

I don’t see why not. we have two bimmers: an X5 and a 530e, though Digital Key not Plus.
on the X5, I’m primary. wife’s secondary.
on the 530e, wife’s primary. I’m secondary.

we both have Digital Key set up on both our iPhones for both vehicles

but maybe Digital Key Plus is different? on her iPhone, after you add your vehicle to her MyBMW app and assign her as secondary, do you see Set Up Digital Key Plus on the home page? if so, then you should be able to

My wife's 3 year old Volvo has the approach enter functionality already..
