remote start

Hello All,
I've searched and read and I'm either an idiot or theres a lot of misinformation on the threads I read through, I'm hoping its the former.

Everything I read says all US G05 X5 have remote start. I have a 2019 50i with pretty much all the bells and whistles and for the life of me I cannot get remote to start to work or find any of the settings listed on the other threads. I go to Settings>Climate control>but there is no "auxilarily climate control" and certainly no "remote engine start".

When I use the app I have a "plan ventilation" option but nothing about remote starting.

Called BMW concierge from the car today and they said my car does not have remote start.

So which is it, is remote start an option I somehow just do not have, or did something messed up in an update somewhere and I need to have a dealer figure it out.

I believe your model year supports Remote Start. did you let your ConnectedDrive subscription expire?

It did expire bc I had to get a new CC. I immediately resubscribed, but I never had remote start available begin with. I am on the phone with "geniuses" now, hoping they can figure it out. I checked my VIN and it looks like my car has literally every option with the exception of the remote start and the heated cup holders... why that is I have no idea lol. BMW says my car is "not capable of adding remote start and why it is not included your connecteddrive services" although they cannot tell me why it isn't compatible. I'm so confused. But atleast I'm not crazy

I know on some models there was an initial "bridge" version of iDrive that did not support remote start for whatever reason. That was on the early M550i cars, it may be the same thing for your situation?

Hmm that seems likely. My car does fall in the weird window where it has the n63 engine but isn’t an m50. Looks like I may be out of luck.

I don't know whether there was such a bridge version but that is not the case for the G05. For yours remote start was available as either part of the Executive package or as a separate option so you don't have it.

Is it something that could be coded in you think?

I wouldn't think so since you need to use the ConnectedDrive servers to pass along the start request.

The key fob doesn't do that does it? On my 21 I just hit lock 3x and it remote starts.

I was referring to remote start by the app. Whether the fob is included in the remote start package or not I do not know. This is the first time I can ever remember someone asking about it.

Since the ability to remote start using app requires subscription to connected drive, im wondering if the ability to remote start using key fob disappears when subscription is expired? By that i mean would the option in the idrive to "precondition/remote start" disappear just like how "climate rules" disappear when subscription ends? I know i cant use the keyfob to remote start until i activate that option in idrive.

via app, Remote Start requires an active ConnectedDrive subscription

Dang. And here i thought i wouldnt need subscription after it expires. Thanks for that info nZtiZia I guess i have to deep dive connected services and learn more. I glanced thru it before and i just the words "as long as technically capable" to mean i would have remote start with keyfob without subscription.

No, remote start is a separate option. Starting by app works whether you have an active ConnectedDrive subscription or not.

Edit: This was from an FAQ someone posted as well as a member posting their experience. I will try and find it since it is opposite of what the screenshot above says.

Turns out it depends on type. Remote start by Fob does not require an active ConnectedDrive subscription but remote start by app does.

Thanks Turtle ! I guess the FAQ above is in reference to using the app. And I just re-read what it says he did say via the app. So thats my fault for misunderstanding his post. Maybe i wont need subscription afterall.

Yea thats what I'm seeing too. I find it strange that I have all of the options in the executive package except for the remote start and the heated/cooled cup holders. I can't imagine BMW spec'ed this car like this from the factory (B&O, tow package, luxury seating package, m sport, DAPP, PAP) and left those off so I'm assuming its an individual build. When you look at the pricing guide the exec package is $2050. My car has laser lights, rear sun shades, and soft close door options which totals $1900.... why on earth wouldn't you just get the package for an extra $150 even if the heated/cooled cupholders and remote start don't interest you? Interesting choice. I know bimmertech offers an integrsted remote start option where I can use my FOB. I don't believe it integrates with the app or preconditioning. Plus you have to buy an additional spare key and keep it in their dongle in the car. I don't think I want it that bad lol. I am curious what exactly gets left off the car when remote start isn't ordered. I would figure it was a software thing considering all ignitions are keyless at this point so I'm hoping there is a coding solution but I am certainly not well enough versed to use ESYS

Remote start (by key fob or connectedrive service) requires hardware. Can you check your FA to see if you have the option installed on your car?

Does your spec sheet has this, 1CR for remote engine start ? I have that on my spec sheet and my connectdrive service expired but was still able to use key fob to remote start the car tho(close range).
