For me I like the tanzanite but I love my Pythonic blue. It the pythonic make a good contrast if you want to change to black wheel. The tanzanite will look better with bright wheel imho in term of contrast.

I went with Phytonic for my M50i & could not be happier. I frankly don't think the Tas blue is worth $2000 more & it will be much harder to maintain, as other have noted it is close to black & will show scuffs, scrapes, micro scratches & spider webbing easily. Phytonic is dark enough IMO. I had a black 4 Runner & is was my first & last black vehicle EVER.

For me Phytonic looks great/good most of the time. Tanzanite looks stunning/amazing part of the time (Sunny day). Pick your preference.

I always try to convert decisions to cost. If the Tanzanite is a $1,400 premium (with no retained value), the cost (including lost investment return) is about $1,600 over 3 years. So do I like the color $53 more per month? Some do, I didn't.

When looking at these fantastic images, very happy we have on order Phytonic as well. But both Phytonic and Tanz can be "winners" I believe - if you feel OK to spend that bit extra for the Tanz.

I love both colors and don't think you can go wrong with either. I went with phytonic blue and noticed it does look a little different depending on how sunlight hits it when clean. Did my own novice "shot on iPhone" in a parking lot after detailing it a few weeks ago, only filter I used was the "auto enhance" thing on the iPhone.

Bmw has the best blues and tanzanite is one of my favorite. I love how deep the color seems.

You really have to view both colors in person. Photos can get close; however, it wasn't until I viewed the Phytonic and Tanzanite side-by-side that the Tanzanite really stood out. At the very least, you notice the metallic specks much more, and there is a depth to the paint that is really amazing.
"10 week delay for Tanzanite"? Yes. That's what they say; however, you're going to be looking at your X5 practically everyday so it's up to you what's more important. In the end, I went with Mineral White Metallic, but that's only because I've had other blue cars and wanted something different. Good Luck with your choice. Either way, I'm sure your X5 will look great. Cheers, -Tony

Between these two, Tanzanite clearly stands out. The best blue color available for the G05 however is Marina Bay blue. Off the shelf it is only available for the X5M, but if your dealer knows how to pull some strings, they can get it for any G05 for a few thousand extra in local currency.

It’s hard to capture Tanzanite in Photos, but in direct sunlight it looks great.

It's definitely a personal choice as always with colours.
Pro: In the sun light it looks special, the colour pops, you see colour shifting -> people that don't know BMW colours even know or believe it's a special (non-standard) colour and comment on how nice it looks. In the shade, it looks classy and luxurious so it still looks fine Con: In the shade, it looks classy and luxurious :') it does not look special. I'm comparing that to a choice of for example frozen metallic which will always look special - I would have went for a frozen paint job but it was not yet available. I took delivery in first batch of X5's Keeping it clean, definitely not so easy. It's a dark colour which looks dirty rather fast. |

I didn't "pick" Phytonic, I accepted it — the car I wanted with the options I wanted at the price I wanted came in that color, so I took it. I'd have taken literally any color offered, none of them bother me.
I love it though! It definitely shifts around a bunch in different light — kinda hard to believe these are all photos of the same car:

I like the Phytonic; to my eyes it’s quite turquoise-ish. I have a Tanzanite M340i which does look a bit boring in dull light but lovely in bright sunlight...

Love the color on our Tanz Blue M50i. At night or shade, it resembles Carbon Black. With a bit of sun, it pops like crazy though. I get a lot of compliments on the color. As for showing spider webs, swirls, etc. I have not had that issue, but I admittedly invested a chunk on ceramic and PPF.
