Michelin PS4S tires

What does everyone think about these tires? Looking to replace the stock tires that came with my 2024 X5 50e this fall, which I wasn’t super impressed with. I run winter tires in the winter but want a good all season for the rest of the year.

I liked them on my Macan S and Macan GTS (both were staggered setups, not square). To be honest I’m partial to the Michelin PS4S’, I hope they’re available in my sizes when I need them (which won’t be for a while).

Living in N. FL with frequent trips to NC I like the all seasons. I know some that say an “all season is no season” but I think they’ve improved greatly since the early days.

It's a good tire, but to be honest, I think a lot of people buy a way more aggressive tire than they need. If you're just putting around, you're just wearing out performance tires faster while getting nothing out of them.

If you're the type to attack a corner even in your SUV, they're probably a good option, but if you're just commuting and maybe a couple of stoplight rompa here and there, probably overkill.

I had a set of PS4S on my E93/335i. Fantastic tire, tons of grip, and a world of difference over the stock all-season RFTs. But they wore out pretty quickly, and on my base suspension E93 you really needed to upgrade to a sport suspension to take full advantage. You ended up with more grip than the base suspension could handle.

I currently have a set of Pilot Sport A/S 3+ for that car now, which are more well-rounded for the car and don't outpace the suspension. Will probably go with something similar for the G05 once the factory tires are worn out, as it's also a base suspension vehicle.

Great tire, but not the right tire for an X5 50e.

I found the Michelin PS4S very capable, safe, quiet and comfortable, both in dry and wet pavement, but they did wear out pretty fast on a Jeep Grand Cherokee V8, in about 15K Miles or so.

In fact, the Michelin PS(X) have always been the quietest tires in all my cars.

Just placed the Pilot Sport All Season 4 on our Volvo X60 Polestar since we travel to snowboard.

For the X5 XDrive 50E, I have no plans to drive it in the snow and Michelin makes a performance Pilot Sport 4 tire with a 20K threadware warranty :-) which are the tires I will be replacing the current standard issued Hankook tires. Here is the info for the tire. Costco and TireRack sells these.

Michelin-Pilot-Sport-4-SUVMichelin Pilot 4 SUV w/20k warranty

We have had Michelin tires on all of our vehicles due to the quiet nature and high performance in weather.

I replaced the factory conti’s on my X3M C with PS4’s and loved them. They are a great tyre.

He probably means they are overkill as you would never be pushing it enough to take advantage of the tire's abilities. I personally don't look at it that way, you get the tire you want, are comfortable with and offers the properties you are looking for.

I’m looking for a comfortable ride and safe tire good in both wet and dry road conditions.

Do you have a separate wheel set for winter tires? You may just want to go with a good All Season. Many folks seem to be satisfied with the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3.

I do run winter tires in the winter. I was looking at the Pirelli Scoepion AS Plus 3, are these better than the PZeros? I had three sets of those on my Audis and they were loud and needed replaced after 12k miles.

Not sure how you define better but I would assume so given all the people that rave about them. Tread life is 70k mile so definitely will not need replacing at 12k.

If you get a tire with abilities beyond what you need, you're just buying tires that are louder than and don't last as long as the right tires for your use.

Not sure about the louder part or not lasting as long but as I said it is a personal choice. Someone may feel that the extra handling, grip, etc. is worth paying for even if they will rarely use it. If we are going to decide how folks are spending their money then obviously you should not be having the M50i as a Kia can get the job done for less money.

Love the Pilot Sport 4S. Have had many sets on many cars and they strike a great ride/steering/traction balance. Wish my X5 had them. The Pilot Sport All Season 4 is a different but also good tire…the set I owned did not last long and the traction was nowhere as good as summers.

FWIW Pilot sport 4S are not track tires…just performance oriented street tires. They are worth it for the steering precision and overall ride/handling balance. They were transformative for my 911 and my 350Z.

This is a relatively low bar in the world of tires, so yes a PS4S is going to be way overkill. Plenty of tires out there will provide this, and last at least twice as long if not longer. PS4S wear out very quickly.

I would describe the PS4S as track capable. They are my go to wet track tire and they hold up better than any other street tire in the dry. I read that they were designed for 20% track 80% street use.

But letÂ’s keep this simple, if you have the money buy whatever you want. I am sure most of us own tons of stuff that is overkill for what we use it for.

Replaced the Pirelli P zero's on my 50e with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s and could not be happier. Much less noise with these tires. I find the ride to be smoother and the car seems to be more responsive. Like some have said, maybe I'll never need the performance but it's nice to know it's there when zipping around in the mountains.

Are those tires star marked? I was looking recently for a set of 22 Michelins but couldn't find with a BMW star.
