B & W Sound system / Rattle from the dash speaker

Anyone else get this rattle from the Dash speaker?Either louder talk radio or certain songs
Rattle the hell out of it and when I push it down with my hand it goes away .

I had an 850 for a loner and with the HK system
It was fine .

I feel like the design is kinda flawed
And it should pop out of the dash for the money it costs .

Trust me, you don't want it to pop out easily. Here in NY, it'll become a target for thieves who'll break-in to take it. People will steal what's not nailed down, sort of speak. Plus I can see our B&W center speaker selling well with G05 owners

Reminds me of Porsche 997 headlights down in Miami, where thieves were easily yanking them out with the suction cups that carry plate glass.

Mine was doing that too, until I played around with my EQ settings by slightly lowering my treble settings.

Does anyone know if that BW center dash speaker trim just pulls up and out?

My bet, using your money and not mine, would be using a small plastic crowbar to pop off the cover and to expose speakers underneath.

My HK Is no problem though the B&W Is supposedly AMAZING. My buddys Taycan sounds unreal.

It has 10 clips that hold the speaker grille in place.
I could be wrong, but it looks like the 2 front corner clips aren't fully seated.
I know on my 2021 X5MC, the left front clip needed some persuasion to fully seat it.

Below is a diagram. It's not the B&W speaker grille, but it mounts the same way.

The trim just pulls out, but I bet its not a rattle, but rather distortion from the speaker itself. Happens during certain songs, I had a big thread about it. The trim is installed with a lot of clips, and its in there very tight, pretty hard to pull it out or make it rattle.

Just following up bc I have this issue too. Did anyone find a fix ? It’s subtle at times bud maddening once heard. Cover seems tight and snug.

Thanks,

I'd pop off the grill and look inside. I replaced my HK speakers with BavSound Stg2 and got very familiar with pulling all the panels off. The center speaker is very easy - You use a thin plastic trim tool and start from the front corners. Be careful not to gouge the leather.

Once it's off, push down/up on the plastic trim around the speakers. It's held down by Torx screws. See if anything is loose. Check the speakers as well, also held down by Torx screws.

If everything is snug, maybe try backing off the screws that hold the speaker trim down - Perhaps it's "too low" for the grill to engage properly. From the original picture in this thread, it looks like his corners weren't fully seated.

Hopefully this all makes sense. If you end up tightening the Torx screws, be careful because it's very easy to strip the plastic screw posts.

Edit: You can also see if your speaker wires are loose inside and rattling.

Is cupholder cover open or closed during the rattle?

I had this issue with my 21 x6m and thought it was the dash but it was the cup holder cover. Was maddening.

Cup holder is open. I will check that too thanks. Suspect it’s the speaker bc when I put my ear next to it I hear the crackle but I am no expert.

Its not a rattle, its a distortion within the song, and the tuning of the audio system amplifies it. I've done extensive testing with B&W, B&O, HK, Logic 7, Bavsound, and Bimmertech systems - they all do it to a degree. B&O has the most distortions, HK the least, but they all have distortions. Just something you gotta live with.

I took it to the dealer and had it fixed. I listen to a lot of EDM and usually listen on reference grade equipment with DIRAC live and it was buzzing like crazy on some particular highs in some songs. They fixed it somehow and it was never an issue. Traded it in on the '23 and didn't experience it with this car.

What is EDM, and what did they do to fix it?

Bumping this up, I have it on my 24. It drives me crazy because I can hear it rattling even with the radio off so I’m guessing it’s not distortion unless it’s the piped in exhaust sounds causing it. I’m at 550 miles so I’ll have the dealer check it out at the break in service

From my experience, it does get better as the system breaks in, and don't turn the volume up too high.

I did this early on where I pulled the cover off and lined everything underneath with felt tape i got on amazon. Hasn't rattled since.
