If the stuff costs less, isn’t it an indicator that some items had been stripped off from the packages?

not necessarily, bmw can open the order system before publishing the guide to dealers. the guide only reflects what the system will or wont let them do

Newbie here...how do you place an order when dealer has no allocation yet? Also do you negotiate for discount at this stage or later?

Dealers routinely take orders without having an allocation. Most folks will advise not to do that but it is necessary in some instances.

You will want to do all your negotiations before you agree to the custom order/give a deposit.

Thanks for the answer, helpful as always.

"Most folks will advise not to do that" - is that because dealer can back out and cancel your order and sell your allocation slot for a higher offer, like I saw in some other posts?

In this case how do I make sure my order/allocation is "secured"?

No, it is not that. They can technically do that anyways. It really is so you aren't waiting for the allocations to come in. In other words, some dealers will take an order just so the customer won't go elsewhere even if that means they have to wait an extra month or so until their next allocations come in.

In general there is no way to make sure the allocation is "secure". The vast majority of dealers are honest and will follow through on a custom order/purchase agreement. While there are some legal arguments that you can sue them to force specific performance (of course it wouldn't be worth the cost) there are others that say all they have to do is give the deposit back and they are in the clear. I would not, and have never, worried about the dealer not following through since it happens so rarely and would suggest the same to you.

I'd change this slightly to say the best way to secure the allocation (and ensure one even exists) is to get a production number; once you have it and it's updated to your config it'd pretty hard for the dealer to back out, though like TurtleBoy says, it's technically possible.

Example from a dealer email to me after asking for the PN this past fall:
me:
can you confirm you have a production number ready to go for an order?

Dealer:
... Production number for the order: 35xxx4. At this point the car is scheduled to be produced / assemble 1st/2nd week of Oct - that should put the car here by 1st week of Nov, possible even by the end of Oct. ...
Once you have the PN you can call the BMW 1-800 num, enter the PN and confirm the status. If everything checks out, you can go forward and ensure the PN is updated with your color / options by asking for screen shot of the order, and by calling the 1800 num.

What the dealers will typically do is tell you they have an allocation whether they do or not (since this leaves their options open) - getting the PN both ensures they have the allocation and that it's "yours", at least to the extent that now you have it and can track it.

I had this issue with a SoCal dealer, I placed an order and it took the dealer a month to get an allocation and I was a little nervous since this was all a handshake agreement. No other dealer around me had allocation either so I was pretty much just stuck but ultimately it worked out as TurtleBoy mentioned I had one of the honest ones

Anyone got their MY22 orders in yet? I was asking a dealer in Long Island and he stated they cannot give me a quote yet since its' too early and might have to wait till September when the cars come in

I also told him other buyers are getting 6/7% off msrp and he said "we don't give away cars"...

if bmw opens allocations and orders dealers can poke through the ordering system and look for differences or new options vs the previous model year... all before bmw actually publishes a guide summarizing the changes

MY22 order incentive

Does anyone know how the current PenFed incentive work with MY22 order? I see the PenFed incentive will expired end of June so I'm not sure whether I can still use it if I place MY22 order now.

Just check PenFed website, the T&C only says delivery date and no MY mentioned. Below is the T&C.

BMW PenFed Member Incentives
Special BMW Incentive offer is valid at any authorized BMW Center in the United States. Cash incentives are not applicable for vehicles leased/financed through BMW Financial Services. Member must take retail delivery Jan 4, 2021 - January 3, 2022.

This is not correct as shown above. Unlike other incentives which are monthly, the military incentive is year-long.
