2024 X5 50e - Day 1 Review and Thoughts
First time on the forum. Appreciate all the information while ordering and finally getting my 50e.
The car was at the dealer late last week and I was able to take delivery today. X-line with Executive Package, DAP, Parking Assist Package. I am upgrading from a 2020 X3 M40i and drove a 2023 X5 40i & 2023 330i etc as rental before getting the 50e. First impressions: The tech on this thing is unbelievable. Totally love the new iD8 compared to iD7. 0-60 on this feels significantly faster than my X3 M40i. in Sport mode and coming off a light, the front of the car literally lifts off the ground a bit. The torque is amazing. Air Suspension and 20inch wheels makes the ride super comfortable. I did a 40 mile all local trip I do every week today, and instantly felt the difference in terms of road noise and comfort. Some photos of the car so far - Will try to post a few more and a video by the weekend. Highly recommended so far, and looking forward to get more miles on it. Congrats!
Do you have adjustable regenerative braking or it is the same as with the 45e that offers only automatic and I can not adjust it to leave me alone with it as in case of full electric BMWs? (I mean does it have coasting in different modes or just in Eco Pro?) |

Fellow 50e owner. Does the car come standard with a 14-50 NEMA adapter to connect with the flexible charger or do you need to buy it ? I only got the 10A wall socket 3 pin adapter. I wonder if the dealer missed it ?

The lane tracking (in 3D) also shows up on the HUD (it's mind blowing stuff) AR View works well. iD8 is super responsive. |

Sunday, I took mine (50e) in Hybrid, not the Eco Pro mode, up to the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville. From Mt Pisgah down to Asheville it’s about 40 miles, almost all downhill. It ran all electric. At the top it showed about 22 miles remaining, at the bottom it showed 24 miles remaining…

With the stock EVSE sold with the X5, on the 50e, from empty, it will probably take over 20-hours to fully charge...that's entirely normal. Power=volts*amps, and the device is only capable of 10A maximum. Note, in iDrive, there's a menu that will further adjust that and defaults to a setting of 6A, so you could nearly double the rate if you switched it to 10 or higher...higher won't hurt unless the thing is plugged into a shared circuit, and the combined load might pop the breaker, but it won't hurt the X5 or the EVSE.
If you drive it daily and use most of the battery, you really want a level 2 EVSE that is capable of more. The 50e can accept a 30-32A device to max out its onboard charging circuit that tops out at 7400W. |

So I assume we need to buy the NEMA 14-50 A adapter if we want fast level 2 charging capability? Why would they not throw this as standard? I wonder if that's the case for all electric vehicles only. Turtleboy do you know?

First, not all EVSEs are plug-in. Second, not all of those use that plug.
I prefer to hardwire my EVSE...one less connection, less voltage drop, fewer connections, so more reliable. IF I ever want to replace it, it's a very simple 3-wire connection that is going to take less than 5-minutes to change out. I don't see the drive to have a plug unless its a smaller one you intend to take with your on a trip somewhere, then hope to find a place you can plug it in when there. The included EVSE in the USA is a 120vac/10A device, so that plug is kind of useless. IT's designed to plug into the standard 15A household socket and won't overload it. |

Could you do an acceleration video on electric only. Respecting the break-in of the engine 😀
