Im not bashing the Cayenne at all but I don't even think it's a comparable model. That would be more comparable to the 50/60i not the MC. Unfortunately the GT is a bit higher than the MC so the X5 MC falls somewhere in between. I do not doubt the interior quality could be higher end but that being said the BMW quality interior seems pretty good.

Well, on an allocation waiting list. Apparently BMW is prioritizing the I6 versions of the X5 and X7 so new order allocations for the X5M Competition and X5/X7 M60i are harder to come by right now. Also, all BMW Individual slots are filled for X5/X6/X7 all models until they reopen for 2025 model year.

Hi TXSchnee,

How do you know all the slots are filled for Individual orders for 2024? Also, do you have any additional information on how they are batching the individual colors for production? Thanks!

The SA read off the internal memo that BMWNA sent to all dealers. All X models are affected, but not all models in total are affected (I think you can still do individual on 5 Series and 7 Series for example). Seems more like an issue with SC than BMW overall. The memo merely said that Individual can be ordered on '25s as soon as the order banks open for the new model year, but no idea how many slots there are overall. If wanting to do Individual, find a good SA that can place you first in line for an allocation for August and beyond builds.

I had the same mindset as you and was anti-Cayenne because of the pricing.

That being said I went for a test drive in a 24’ Cayenne S with the new V8 and ordered one that day. Coming from 5 consecutive BMWs, the last being X5MC and M5C I can tell you my well optioned Cayenne S feels higher end than both of those cars. It is a superior higher quality vehicle in almost every way.

I’ve only had it for a few weeks now but yes on my usual routes the Cayenne S with air suspension and rear-axle steering does feel smaller, ligter and more nimble than my X5MC that I had for 2 years.

Sorry if this turns into a thread hijack...

You got me curious, so I went and looked at the My BMW app to see what it says. I wasn't too far off, but I was a little optimistic on my commute numbers.

For the road trip the My BMW app says we had best individual legs of 157mi at 77mph for 22.1mpg and 120mi at 73mph for 22.5mpg, and an overall round trip of 20.5mpg over roughly 500 miles of highway travel (vaguely downhill one direction, uphill the other - about 800ft total elevation change each way, with mild rolling low hills in between).

On my 16 mile pancake-flat commute (5 stoplights, all within 2 miles of one end or the other, otherwise highway), I'm averaging in the 18-19 range. Individual trips vary between 17 and 22, probably due to traffic conditions. Average speed is down in the 49mph range once you factor in the surface streets and stoplights, but 70+ on the highway portion. I generally use Highway Assist cruise where able, in the basic comfort default drive mode. I'd say I get no more than 1 or 2 bursts of "fun" acceleration on an average commute day.

So no, I'm not getting an average 22 on the commute, though I do see that number a couple of times a week on individual trips. A couple of random drives around town on all surface streets shows roughly 16mpg. And my "all trips since new" average is 18.4mpg over 6800 miles. I use 93 octane fuel with no more than 10% ethanol (not at all easy to find around here!).

All things considered, I've been pretty pleased with the mileage I've been able to get. It's quite comparable on the highway to our much less powerful 2015 Audi Q7 Prestige that this vehicle replaced.

I have 2020 RSQ8 and 2024 BMW X5 M60i. Both have air ride and are comfortable. My brother has 2021 X6MC and is a hard stiff ride.

Ride quality is so subjective I think it’s best judged after driving these cars. The X5MC is firm but not uncomfortable in my opinion…but my other cars are quite sporty. In standard mode the X5s handling felt much sharper than RSQ8.

The Cayenne is lighter and feels so but I felt the interior quality and tech were a few steps down (disappointing to me as I own 2 other Porsches). I also don’t love the 4 wheel steering which makes the car feel less predictable to me - I must not be alone as Porsche dumped it on their 911ST.

If ride quality and handling are both of the utmost importance I would recommend a Taycan (Sporturismo) over any of these SUVs. They ride better and handle better than any of them. If the cargo space was a little larger I’d own one.

Interesting how the opinions vary so much. I have a 23 X3M and 24 X5M and the X5M is so smooth and almost plush compared to the X3M. I like both but the X3M is draining on longer rides.

At this price point it really just comes down to personal preference. The air suspension in the Audi does make a big difference in ride quality.

I prefer the sportier ride of the BMW. You can't go wrong with either, but if your concern is comfort go with the Audi.
I agree with this but the Audi imo simply isn’t wot the extra 25/30 grand. I drove one before I ordered my 23x5m almost a year and a half ago. It drove nice and off course felt very similar to the urus which I had also driven about a year before. But the rsq8 is over priced compared to the bmw. I didn’t see anything in it that would make me want to spend another 20-30k. Plus I just prefer bmw. That’s a certain robustness to a full M that I love. It’s definitely a bit more raw in how it drives and feels and I love that. Especially when you max out all the track settings it’s truly ready for the track all 5600lbs of it lol. But yes bmw just works for me. Especially the full M cars/suvs. In fact I’m on a wait list for a first allocation at a dealer for the new m5. So I might trade out of my x5m and give that a go for a couple of years. We’ll see when they announce it how I feel. But xm5c checks all the boxes and I have been in love with the car since the day I got it. 23k miles later and I still feel the same.

I was with Audi for 13 years before I got my 2023 BMW X5 45e in 2022, then traded that and my Audi S6 for the monster that I have now.

I looked at many other manufacturers and BMW was always on top for these SUV's. The options, quality, and styling are second to none in my opinion. The ride is a little rough, but it's well worth it and I wouldn't change a thing. BMW for the win!

Oh, my wife has the Mercedes SUV and I'm pretty disappointed and so is she. She wants to go back to BMW later this year when her lease is up.

My wife has a 2024 Mercedes GLE 450 on order. Should be here by next week. She really liked the larger back seat and the third-row option. Which model does your wife have and what do you not like about it?

She has a 2022 GLE350. Honestly, I'm just not impressed after driving this X5MC I have now and the X5 45e before. Options and quality are the issues I have vs the BMW.

Oh ok. Does she have the air suspension in her GLE350? For 2024 they did a refresh so idk if that has improved the ride quality but the fit and finish of everything seems very nice.

I haven't seen the refresh. The one before that didn't have air ride and that's one other thing I was comparing it to in the 45e. I even had it in my Audi S6, it's such a smooth ride with air. Maybe we should look at the refresh when she turns hers back in. Lol

Edit: I was just driving it and I forgot how bad the drive assist and steering is in this thing. I hope they fixed that.

I'll let you know what we think after we take delivery. My X6 MC won't be here for another couple weeks, so I'll drive her car a few times to get a feel.

I bet it's better than this version. Either way, let me know so I can keep the new one in mind.

Interesting…I drove the new Cayenne Turbo E hybrid Coupe, Audi RSQ8, Mercedes GLE 63s AMG and the X5 M Comp. My impression was that interior quality and tech in both Audi and Porsche models was lacking when compared to Mercedes and BMW. The interior materials felt cheap, which is unfortunate because I really love the way the Porsche drives but in the end the X5MC felt like the best option for me.

The tech in the BMW is superior and more intuitive theres no aruguing that. I will always be a fan of BMW and am not ruling out being back in the future. That being said iD8 is a disappointment to me and harder to use than iD7.

Overall driving feel of the Porsche eclipses the BMW which is what I believe you pay for in a Porsche. As for the interior, the Cayenne needs to have all of its available creature comforts specced. If these boxes are all ticked the interior appears higher end and higher quality than the BMWs. Things like embossed bits, customized stitching and color blocking make the interior very special. Of course it comes with a price

ride quality and comfort will increase once you install height adjustable springs hr/kw.
