First of all, i'm sorry for everybody else then John that is implied in this story. You dont have anything to be blamed of. The only one to blame today is John Gazzola, a.k.a. LuvMyRide.

I know a lot of people will vouch for this guy since he spends a lot of money here and there on stuff he sells 2 weeks later; so obviously he got some nice feedbacks; but here is the story behind my negative feedback:

Jan 8th 2011; we close a deal on a used Lux light system for $125. He asks me to gift him the money on paypal which I do. He got a lot of feedbacks so I think I should trust this guy.

An hour later, he tells me he's a good friend of Marc a.k.a. mds82 (the man behind the lux system) and that he could make a conversion for me with the newest leds for $50 more. At this point, I'm thinking "what the hell". If I have to go for a new system; better as well get the newest unused ones. Once again, I had to assume all fees on this transaction.

He then asks about my adress and all the usual stuff and then he supposedly sent the lights to Marc for conversion. And then goes the waiting period...

On january 18th; i'm wondering what's going on and John tells me Marc just finished working on them and will return the lights to me the next day.

On january 31st; still not having received anything yet, I write back to John only asking about the shipping date to get an approximate delivery date. And after two more weeks waiting, I did something just to cover his story and to assure myself that the deal is clean, I wrote to Marc just to confirm if he did that job for John. Didnt receive any confirmation.

Suddenly, who's writing me back on ? Hell yeah! John! He replied because Marc asked him What was going on with me. But John didnt bother answering me back. He's stating that he's sorry his dog ate the lights (What?) but he promises me I'll get my money back by friday. Which was ok for me at that moment; since I wanted the deal to be closed either way.

And now we're a week later; tired of spending my time writing to a deadbeat seller. And now I'm kinda tired of waiting for a refund that will obviously never come. Not only this guy sold me something he never shipped, but he found a way to get even more money from me for a conversion he didnt even had made!

And funny thing, HIS dog ate the lights and it was somebody else that was supposed to ship the lights to me directly. I dont get it. In the end, this whole story about his dog made me laugh... "Am I that stupid?" My dog ate my homework; ok... maybe a teacher could bite... But a set of Leds on a hard plastic frame with a giant steel heatsink?

Anyway; I lost $175 + fees with that story teller and honestly, I lost all hopes of getting it back. Since he asked me to gift him the money, paypal wont investigate and a credit card mail fraud claim has been filed with both AmEx and Visa (Used a different credit card for each payment).

So I leave the matter to them from now on. But if you have to deal with that guy, you best bet is to STAY AWAY or even better, tell him your dog ate your money.

Never... EVER gift your money on paypal.

Same thing happened to me, luckily PayPal stuck with me and recovered all my money, close to $1000. I'll never gift money again.

Matrix: How did you do to get that money back? Just explain the situation? They will most likely ask WHY the money was gifted.

Anyway i'll get my money back; either by the credit card company after the chargeback / investigation or by paypal; I'm just curious about the options with paypal.

I explained to them how the deal was presented to me and they said that they are aware of people doing this so they opened a case file. It took a month or so to finish the investigation but in the end it worked out for me. You have nothing to lose so plead your case. For those of you who do not have their 800# it is 800-221-1161. They are very helpful and understanding if you have a case.

Did you gift the money directly through your account or through a credit card? With a CC, call up your CC company and have them do a chargeback on the transactions and take care of it that way. Also work with Paypal, they should at least listen and investigate your case. I've had good luck with their dispute department in the past.

I gifted the money by CC. Claim has already been filed. But they dont play games there, its not just a "claim", its "mail fraud". But the sad thing is that a great chunk of the funds were already in my account. So i'll have to work with paypal here.

I know he was a decent man; at least, that's what I thought. But I guess every decent man can lose it every once in a while.
