Oh Canada
So just for laughs I went on the BMW Canada website and its amazing the options our friends north of the border can get on their X5's. It appears that most if not all of the options that were dropped (or in the process of being dropped) here in the US are available on vehicles sold there. Makes me wonder if I should have had a friend or relative there buy one and sell it to me. I am sure this would not come without a huge amount of hassle but I am curious if anyone has tried this?? Everything, I mean every single option I would want seems to be available in that market.

It may still on the website, but then the sales rep may call you and tell you it's not available...My guess
Also, this topics has been discussed previously. The conclusion is it's very very difficult to export it outside it's intended market. Not impossible, but very very difficult. I had to sign a non-export agreement and my dealer called me twice to verify that I am still in Canada.... |

Yeah probably various supply chain issues, so they limited some options to lower volume markets. I'd simply pick any Canadian dealership closest to you, give them a call and see if they would come up with some way of selling it to you. Though I'm pretty sure all these cross-border COVID restrictions will make it very hard to do.

These car's don't have much wind noise. Its mainly tire+road noise which no amount of glass will ever solve. |

Yeah, but we pay through the nose in terms of overall cost of the vehicle lol. A fully spec'd out X5 40i can run close to $110k up here haha.
EDIT: Nevermind, it's even worse than I thought... here's what a fully loaded, fully optioned X5 40i costs in Canada Last edited by hksr; 05-10-2021 at 10:44 AM.. |

I bought a new X5 in January, they made me sign a paper that said I would not export this vehicle outside the intended market (Canada). The document specifically targets foreign exports however (Asia)

Yeah I had to sign the same kinda thing. I think it's targetting exports to Asia as well as I'm on the West Coast.

That's BS. How can they dictate what you do with a car that you now own?? Once you pay for the vehicle it is your choice what to do with it. Warranty may be an issue, but how can they deny coverage.

I didn’t have to sign anything like that for my X6, but had to sign something similar back when I bought my 2009 335i. The weird thing is that they forgot to have me sign when I picked up the car and signed all of the paperwork, and called me a day later. Always wondered what they would have done if I refused to sign, since I already had the car.

What if you moved? Does that mean you couldn't bring your car? Makes no sense..

X5 is set to be produced in China soon for domestic market; by then, the demand will be low for these grey import channel. |

Exactly. You own the car. BMW cannot dictate to governments where, why, who, can import or a export a car, this is a government decision. Last time I checked the car companies where not elected governments. Quote:
I did not have to sign anything. I am not trying to be a smart-ass, but did they have you sign because you are Asian? I am sure that would be tinkering on illegal. it's no F**** business of theirs whether you are in Canada still or not! You are free to go wherever you want without BMW's permission... Geez.
