question about offset: I know that our 20" winter size should be 9X20 5x112 et35. Would the et38 work as well? or would that cause issues?

I only ask because it is much easier to find et38 options out here in germany. I want to make sure that it would be ok.

My other option would be to get just winter tire that are a littler larger for my 21's at 275/25/21 and 315/40/21. Would that cause any problems?

Thanks in advance!!

They do only come in black for the mSPort BMW wheel. The dealer i found them had 1 set left in stock and said they couldn't order more until next season.

So I've researching this awhile as we waited for delivery of Our 50i with 742 (22") wheels was delivered last weekend. I finally pulled the trigger on a 20x9 set of wheels for winter with ET of 38. They arrived today and I have an appointment to have them mounted and installed Saturday. At that time i'll Let you know for sure. We also have the MSport brakes - if that matters. My calcs showed the following: 742 22" wheels are 9.5" in front with ET 37 and 10.5" inches with ET 43 in back. When compare those to 20x9 with 38 ET it shows that I should be about 8mm further from strut on front and 27mm further from strut on back than my 22's. I also compared the 740 wheel 20x9 with ET 35 to the 20x9 with 38mm. It showed that I'd be 3 mm closer to the strut on inside and 3mm less poke on outside. I can't imagine 3mm (less than 1/8") will cause a problem. So I pulled the trigger on the ET 38s. Sorry for the long winded answer (I'm a mech engineer LOL). Will let you know how they fit Saturday.

UPDATE: the wheels didn't work. Rubbed on the caliper. Shipping back and still searching for winter wheels.

Well, I broke down and ordered a set of OEM 20" Winter Wheel/Tires package. Luckily I was in the right place at the right time and got a KILLER deal on them so I am very happy. They will come with 275/45/20 Bridgestone Blizzak tires.

I'm also leaning towards the OEM 20" package. Very expensive ($6,800 CAD), but my local tire shop's package wants $5,200 for far less attractive wheels.

I've heard the 20" 748m winter wheels are back ordered. My dealership GM is to get back to me Monday. Tired of searching for a whee that works with the proper load rating.

Where are you located? My dealer in Toronto said it should be no problem to get them on a couple of days' notice.

Anyone getting "performance" Winter Tires?

I hear a lot of people are getting Blizzaks or similar T rated rated.

Is anyone getting V rated performance tires like the Pirelli Scorpians, Michelin pilot alpin, etc?

I made the mistake years ago on my X3 switching from pilot alpin's to X-ice and although the X-ice was better in the snow/ice, the performance was absolutely horrible. Light steering feel, so much more body roll, etc. I'm skeptical about going back to regular non perf winter tires.

Thoughts?

Really? Thanks for the info. I will let my dealer know. I'm in the Northeast in the US

The Canadian OEM set seems to come only with the Pirellis. I would have preferred the Pilot Alpins, but when I was shopping around it seemed like they were hard to find in 275/45/20.

Didn't mind the x-ice Michelins, but then I had them on my extremely un-sporty X1 which I never drove aggressively. Agree that they would not be great on a performance-oriented vehicle.
