Rear Wiper on --> Interior lights on

X5 50e.

When I turn on the rear wiper, the reading light over the rear passengers turns on. it turns off after 3 minutes and I haven't figured out how to turn it off any sooner. is this normal?

Didn't think it was normal. It wasn't once/twice, i tested it a good few times and it always turned on the reading lights. Anyone has any suggestion?

I would take it back to the dealer and let them fix it.

Very few switches in a modern BMW actually directly break or make a power connection. Each one tends to be a very low current switch fed into a digital circuit that triggers a serial message on the CANBUS that directs a computer to then send out another message that tells the particular thing to perform its desired function.

Something is corrupting the signal, or one of more of the CANBUS lines is crossed or cross-connecting. Could just be a loose connection somewhere. Digital diagnostics may help isolate where the problem is, or it could be a lot of trial and error...will take a good tech or someone very lucky.
