Hey Turtle. Generally, I completely agree with your position.

This situation was super weird and I just waived my bargaining rights to secure an allocation.

To make a long story short, I let my previous dealer know that I wanted to place an order as soon as possible. By mid-March he told me that no one was ordering and I would be first in line anyway. He said they expected to get an allocation for an M60 in early April and it would be mine.

Just our curiosity, I decided to get a second opinion from another nearby dealership and was annoyed to find out that the first guy flat out lied. They had one allocation available, so I just jumped on it and put the deposit down. Knowing that I have no chance to negotiate but I didn't expect too much of a discount, given the new build.

I got excited by everyone's updates and called MyGenius and was notified that I was pushed back to Week 36!

This damned order is snakebitten. It has pretty much taken out any excitement I have left for this car. Does anyone know what the policy is on cancelations at Status 111 before I call the dealership?

You're accusing the initial dealer of flat out lying because the second completely different dealer had an allocation? Please expand on how this makes the initial dealer a liar.

It depends on your agreement with the dealer and their policy. I'm assuming you gave a non-refundable deposit since you asked the question. Some dealers will refund those if the vehicle has not gone into Production Begins and others won't. One complication is that you have an Individual paint, cancelling those usually means no refund.

If you are serious about cancelling then ask your CA and see what they say. My guess is given how the scheduling keeps changing they will let you out of it. Let us know the outcome.

He told me that no one had allocations and I would be the first one. I gave him my build specs by January. I even found the option sheet from Canada and shared it with him.

Once the Build Your Own function went live on the US website in mid March, he told me "no one has allocations but don't worry, you will have one of the earliest builds". I waited another week and then called another dealer and to my surprise, they had already placed several orders and had an open allocation that same day.

The more empirical explanation is the following: by Q4 2022, I told him that I am committed to get this 2024 M60i and was ready to put down a deposit. I finally got my production number(from another dealership) on March 28th, 2023. From reviewing the posts in this forum, I believe some people were able to place orders as early as February with European orders predating even that.

Maybe "lying" is the wrong term. He simply might been completely disinterested and never actually checked. Whatever the terminology, the guy was wrong.

Hope that clears it up.

Definitely does add more light to the picture. Though reading about how you got the production number on March 28 sounds like he didn't have an allocation either, and if he did have one you should have received it when you placed your order. The last week of the month is when production numbers are released.

It's very possible he didn't have an allocation but he kept telling me that no one else does either and he assured me I would have one of the first builds. That is the missing piece of information that troubles me the most. Whether he was uninformed or simply misleading me to keep me as a client, it delayed my order and ruined a relationship.

But it's all in the past now. It has just been a frustrating process. This would be my 4th X5 in a row so I decided on the Individual option to spice it up a bit. However, this overall experience has left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Had I known back then what I know now, I probably would have skipped the Individual Color or just grabbed the Cayenne GTS or RR.

I was fortunate enough to not get pushed back with my build last year, but can understand your frustration.

All I can say is don't give up on the individual color yet. I did individual Java Green, and whilst the wait time was brutal (ordered 03/14, allocation received 03/23, built 06/29), it was definitely worth it. I still get enjoyment knowing it's the only Java Green X5 45e in SATX.

I hear you. I typically don't let the outside noise dampen my excitement but I have been waiting SO long . I actually was going to take a 2022 BRG last April but the sales rep talked me out of it and said to wait for the LCI. That is why I was so blindly trusting of him throughout the process. In the end, it burnt me. This additional 5 weeks is just kind of adding salt to the wound, especially when the other Week 31 builds just got moved up 3-4 weeks. Equally frustrating as it is strange.

More than anything, I would love to understand how two people in my region were able to get 2 BRGs from the dealer showroom by end of May. There is definitely something in the process that I missed.

Note to self: next time, I will simply go with a good broker and I believe there are a few solid ones on this forum. I chose to be loyal to a local dealership and that was clearly a mistake.

Hey Turtle, you were correct as always. They didn't push back at all. They simply said they don't understand it themselves why everything took so long and expected the car to be ready in May.

Got you all beat. I went to week 38. Called Genius just now. He said it shows order received today? Wonder if they change that date when they changed the production date.

(Dealer wouldn't tell me planned production week.)

I've asked for an update and specifically requested the production week as well, will post when I know. (Customers in Europe can't track their orders like US customers can. All info has to come through the dealer.) Week 31 would be a huge blow to the schedule. That would be more than half a year between order and delivery ...

Are ALL individual colors actually batched together? I thought they would always batch certain colors?
Finally received my VIN. Status 165 right now. Car was produced on 06/24/2023 so Saturday of week 25.

Went to 112 yesterday as well. No ProdDate listed on the source of the page yet. After the re-addition of executive package, I also noticed that there are a lot more accessories available like CF bits and 3 new wheel options.
  • Carbon Black
  • Tartufo Extended Merino
  • Fineline Black Wood
  • 22" Black 742M
  • M Sport
  • M Sport Professional Package
  • Red Calipers
  • Executive Package
  • Parking Assistance Package
  • Heated Front Seats, Armrests and Steering Wheel
  • Anthracite Alcantara Headliner

But now I'm at 112 again so I do not know if I'm still week 32 or back to week 31. Maybe I'll call as I have the BMW L2 wall charger being installed next Tuesday 18 July. Now I just need to find a fitted cargo liner so spills will not run.
