Mine updated without issues. The resetting of various parameters is listed in the details to some degree, and is expected. My startup display showed all doors, windows, hood, and hatch were open, and didn't reset until I did an iDrive reset.
I'll have to redo some of my BimmerCode tweaks, but again, that is expected. It did not prevent the update from occurring, though, as some have wondered could be a factor. |

This has been pretty standard for me on every OTA update I've done which is 4 to date. I just updated mine today and a couple of restarts of the car made that error go away. I didn't need to reboot iDrive to fix it on mine.

I do not know what my battery level is so I can only guess that the initial run of 10 miles put me in the safe zone, but now neither 13 miles or 2 miles make any difference much less checking after the car has not been turned on for 2 hours. It is slightly curious that BMW says get to a flat surface and the one time I got the go-ahead for the last phase was when parked briefly in my driveway which has a steep incline.

No new features for iD7 vehicles, just fixes/enhancements that evidently aren't obvious given what has been reported. If you are happy with how things are currently working and don't feel the need to upgrade you should be fine skipping it.

Your 12vdc battery, depending on your driving conditions, may only be charged at 60% of capacity. Just like your smartphone, and many other devices, running out of juice during an update can brick it. Your vehicle looks at the battery level, and will refuse to start the update until the battery level is raised. Now, it would be nice if they actually told you the reason why, but they do list a bunch of prerequisites. Charging your 12vdc battery has been shown to be one reason why an update has not been started.

I got the notification update for the iDrive and surprisingly the navigation map as well. Did the map update first, and then did the iDrive.
Had to drive for about 45mins for it to transfer from my phone to the X5. It went EXTREMELY smooth and seamless after that. I did get that screen about being notified blah blah blah; however, I pushed the iDrive controller up to view the notifications and there was a notification to start the update. I selected the notification and it started the update. Took exactly 20mins as it said it would. Afterwards, all my BimmerCode coding was gone as expected, but I noticed the Anti-Dazzle was still on/working. Wasn't expecting that, and was actually dreading getting it re-coded. Guess I got lucky. First thing I noticed is that the vehicle in both displays now shows my X5's color instead of being gray. I got so excited , it's the little things in life that bring me joy. |

I’m having the exact same problem as Kgelfen360 above. I’m interested in any fix or workaround that’s been identified. Though I am not certain, I doubt that battery voltage is a problem because I was unable to complete the update even after a 70 mile trip at highway speeds (which should have been enough to sufficiently charge the battery).

As an aside assuming you don't have a 45e, keep in mind that the vehicle uses a brake energy regeneration system so the battery is not always being charged when you are driving. The alternator is only engaged when coasting or braking. The exception to that is if the battery is below a specific SOC, I believe 60%, then it will run until it reaches a specific SOC, I believe 80%. Taking a 70 mile highway drive may not charge it anymore than a few miles through town depending on the conditions.

What type of charger do you guys use for 40i. I am just curious? jad03060 srbs73
I do mostly drive highway and cruise control. I mean I can drive around and ride the breaks I guess? But kind of curious how you go about using external charger? Thanks! |

I have a Schumacher SC1281 and have successfully charged my M340i which is a mild-hybrid and can be finicky to charge. Make sure you keep the hood open when charging.

Going to hook up to charger. I use the Ctek charger ( link below ) on all my cars for years. Best out there. Set it to snowflake mode which is for AGM batteries. The hookups are under the hood. I beleve this model I have includes the little alligator clips which you will need to pop on the positive and negative post. https://amzn.to/3wmuFNE |

For those that are still stuck with a full battery, if you have it set up for remote start can you uncheck that box for a few days and see f the makes a difference?

I left it on my Ctek charger overnight. Drove to the store and back this morning and parked it in the garage and voila! It fixed it!
As soon as I put it in park and shut the car off I got the upgrade prompt and was able to start it. This was after several weeks of the software update being "read to install" but never getting the prompt. The lesson at least for me was that the state of charge was too low for the battery. Note to BMW software GUI engineers. When users put the vehicle in park and a software install is ready BUT some factor is preventing it you should give the message in Drive. i.e. "Your updated software has been uploaded to the vehicle, preparations have been made and it is ready to install, HOWEVER we detect your battery state of charge is at X percent. Please drive your vehicle more frequently to charge the battery, charge your vehicle with a BMW charger or take it to dealer for upgrade". Or if there is some other error code holding it back simply state what it is. A little info goes a long way |
