Squeaky brakes when reversing.
I've had my x5 for a month now and noticed squeaking when reversing. If I'm not mistaken, it happens when the wheels are turned and reversing. I have the msport brakes. Any others out there?

Back to the topic at hand. Squeaking breaks when reversing is common on BMWs. Are yours squeaking every time when you reverse or is it intermittent? My F15 does it now and then. The common issue is the brake pads having stuck to the rotor slightly after last brake application when parking. It goes away as the wheels rotate and push the pads back a little. It is more common in reverse, but can happen in foward. It's also prevalent in cold weather. Turning the wheel also moves the front rotor a bit, so you get some small noise.

Bumping an old thread...
Had mine G05 since September 27, and a few days ago exactly the same squeak has started on mine - only when reversing, and sometimes even without braking - just normal low speed reversing. I also have the Msport brakes, so as Auricom says sounds like its common, and once the pad is pushed back from the rotor it stops. The one thing I have noticed, the centre part of the rotor has some minor rusting, for a new car this surprises me.... Last edited by James_G0540i; 11-20-2019 at 02:49 PM.. |

Also, when the brakes are very hot, don't stop the car and hold on the brake, let the car creep a bit so make sure the pads don't 'fuse' themselves to the disc. That often creates marks on the disc that will make the brakes squeaky, and these are really hard to 'fix'. These are sport brakes, they deserve a bit more attention if you want the best use of them.
