ASS Coding?
I would gladly pay someone to code this feature on my X5. Will drive up to 50-75 miles. I live in Hagerstown MD and am close to the DC, Baltimore and Harrisburg PA. Need to wait until after April 18 when Sun Motors updates my software to 3/2019.35.

It's easy enough to do with bimmercode and an adapter. Plenty of threads on here about it. I'd never coded a car, and it took all of 5 minutes. Very, very easy and very inexpensive. Plus, you'll be able to code new things as the app makes them available.

Which adapter did you buy? Android or iPhone? I'm a bit apprehensive.

iPhone. I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It worked great. I was apprehensive too. And, it does throw a chassis error when it's uploading the code, so that's a bit unnerving, but it goes away immediately. Everything worked well.
BTW, at one point, the word was that UniCarScan was needed. I ordered one from Germany. Turns out the Vgate worked fine. Having ASS off is a godsend, and I would have ordered 6 adapters to make it happen. |

I ordered the Veepeak for my Android phone. Took a few tries for the bluetooth to connect but pretty easy after that. I got the same error code but as others have stated it goes away. Well worth the ~$60.

I'm wondering to buy the adapter for the M50d from 10/18 production. It costs in Europe 150 euro + 40 euro full version bimmercode. Which useful changes I would be able to do? It's worth ?

Void Warranty? - most dealer service departments don't know which end their ass is on (and I'm not talking about Auto Stop/Start), and as for Insurance claims, again never heard of an Insurance company checking a vehicle's ECU(s) for coding. Can anyone tell me they've actually been refused an Insurance claim for basic ECU coding? I'd understand if its got a performance boost or enhancement chip - as the car would likely sound/perform differently, but for coding something like ASS, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. |

I will say, there's a way to unlock certain features that may not be legal in your country - if that's the case, then you may be playing with fire if you cause an accident and it could be attributed to said feature - Extended Traffic Jam, for example. At that point it could be argued that you crossed the line from "accident" to "negligence" and insurance could deny the claim. |

One scenario might be a car sitting at a light that gets "T-Boned" by another vehicle. Let's say the Bimmer catches on fire from the impact. Insurance investigator discovers that "ASS" has been disabled and that vehicles was running when it was T-Boned. Adjuster denies claim because he says car wouldn't have caught fire if the engine was off which it would have been with "ASS" enabled.
Maybe far fetched but would you want to be in that situation with your new car? |
