Is there a way to set the car to start up in Sport mode to effectively keep the ASS off? Or at least code it that way if you can't set it to do that in the IDrive?

ASS is my most hated feature on this vehicle, and I can't turn this mother'fer permanently off. I normally hit the off button after pushing start. But there are times when I'm in a hurry and forgot to engage the ASS off button.

The engine will literally shut off in micro second after a stop. I did an experiment to see how many times ASS will cycle just pulling into my driveway and garage...minimum of 6 SS cycles! This is pure insanity.

The ASS is like the low flow toilet with 1.5 gal flush vs the old 3 gal before the environmentalists ruined it. If you go #2 in 1.5g you would have to flush as you go otherwise the toilet will most likely clog up...wasting more water and less effective. ASS can't be good for the engine and starter and it's dangerous in heavy traffic condition.
Is it bad for the starter motor? I had ASS on my 2014 MB C300 that I put over 90K miles on in the 5 years I had it. Lots of heavy urban driving in Philly with our constant parking lot of 76. Never had any problems with my starter and I never turned off ASS. I'd imagine a BMW would be just as reliable.

You'd be surprised with my 530e where it will start and stop the engine while rolling as it switches from engine to electric in a very fluid fashion. They've engineered this stuff into the starters and other components now.

I'm curious though why it would be dangerous? As soon as you hit the gas you'd get all the power you need to go. It wouldn't hold you back at all. ASS never caused me problems parallel parking in super tight spots either.

What I do find challenging when parking though is BMW Auto Hold. I think the way Mercedes implemented Brake Hold is a lot easier to get used to. I find I have to turn this off when parking in tight spots.

You can code ASS off and also what mode the car will default to when starting.

The engine even stops when I'm almost to a complete stop. Rolling slowly into 1-2 mph stop, engine shuts off and I'm coasting to the stop. Hate it.

I think your dealer would be in trouble if BMW finds out.
It changes how EPA calculates the fuel consumption; and that's why Auto Start/Stop cannot be turned off permanently.

My last two 3-series cars both remembered that I turned it off. Once I did it, I never had to do it again.

I'm surprised the G05 makes you hit the button every time.

I've been building & hotrodding cars for 25 years, and this feature always reminds me of a few 70s era GM cars I had back in the day.... that needed their carburetors adjusted. As soon as you came to a stoplight, the car would stall.

Plus, I cannot help but think this feature causes undue stress to the starter

Every time it happens, a huge rush comes over me like "Did my car just stall?". I know better now..... but I can't make that feeling go away.

Hopefully, by the time my car arrives, the BMW coding experts will be able to get this stuff sorted out.

As mentioned, due to EPA regulations they need to have it default to on since that is the configuration that was used for mileage testing. A vehicle tested must start in a mode at least as efficient as the vehicle used for certification.

In most cases you won't even realize it is happening unless you are thinking about it. I always like to test passengers and so far not one of them noticed the engine was stopping and starting. It is a very smooth system.

ASS coding on G05 has been sorted out long ago and remains reliably "sorted out". It was the very first sole feature of Bimmercode for G05 and has remained the sole feature that has always worked even while other features fluctuated as the developer played catch-up to BMW's software and market releases.

Agree. A non-issue for me - zero impact on my driving, although I expect fuel savings is marginal.

Me too, it's a non-issue. But I know a lot of people really dislike it.

Has anyone looked to see if there is a way to put a jumper in place instead of code? On my old F150 there wasn't a programmer yet for it and I poped the cover off and put a jumper in place this kept it from ever coming on and when selling it just pulled the jumper out....
