Spotify on ConnectedDrive?

I took delivery of my new 40i G05 last Thursday. I'm trying to figure out how to get the Spotify App to run natively within the ConnectedDrive System. It works fine when the system is in CarPlay mode but I prefer native mode. Has anyone had any luck getting 3rd party Apps working?

I went up to the dealer today bc my ConnectDrive stuff wasn't working. They did a reboot and that fixed it. While I was there I asked about the built in apps for Pandora and Spotify. Apparently they were buggy so they were pulled. He doesn't know if/when they're coming back. He said CarPlay is the only way right now.

Looks like US isn't getting it. Only "select European Markets" are getting it... Bullshit...

I was discussing this over in another thread. From what the ConnectedDrive site says, it's available as a standalone app, which I assume is your goal here. Digging deeper, it looks like you can't have CarPlay enabled. I am going to try and see if I can figure this out today.

Spotify on ConnectedDrive is a mess especially if you have iPhone. I just uninstalled it as it was so buggy. Way better on CarPlay. Followed my dealer's advice :-)

Very much bullshit considering BMW USA's site specifically lists these apps on-board. I love Apple CarPlay, but would love to have some ability to add apps to the car if I ever leave Apple. Given the onboard hard drive...outside of downloading music to the HD...what's the point? Also, I am having trouble trying to think any instance I would download directly to the car's HD. Other than non-streaming, it seems useless. My musical tastes change on a daily basis, so I would be constantly updating my on-board music.

For Android there is mirroring option but if it’s again good, no idea. BMW collaborated with Apple so I’m sticking to Apple because of this reason. Too much hassle otherwise. Apple Carplay works fine for me.

Agreed. I think you’re going to have a hard time finding anything more convenient than CarPlay with an iPhone. I bet there’s a reason for that....

That’ll be $80/year or $300 please!

A few weeks ago i had the 11.19 update and on returning from the dealer Spotify was listed as its own entry under connected music. A week ago it then disappeared never to be seen again!!!! I have no idea how these things happen except for for poor unstable, untested IT. Such a shame.

I had 3/2020.24 update two weeks ago and I can play Spotify in ConnectedDrive but only for 15 minutes with my home account. Do you think the app is standalone or needs Connected Music that I have not? My cell is a Samsung Note 9.
