Center Armrest

Has anyone else noticed that the center armrest flexes when you lean on it with your right arm while driving? I am not a terribly big guy but I think the plastic doors are too thin to properly support my arm so they flex inwards. Anyone else?

Another annoyance with this car.

Have you noticed a noise from the back passenger side when the vehicle flexes? What I mean by that is when you're going over an uneven surface and part of the car is higher than another. My car makes a creaking sound almost like a boat getting stretched.

I don't have creaking in back of car...but do have the problem with the armrest. Really ridiculous for a car of this price.

No creaks or rattles in our X5...will have to check the center armrest. I haven’t noticed anything out of ordinary about it, except how nice the heated armrest actually is!!

Have you isolated the cause of the creaking sound as I have as well?

Do you have the Heat Comfort Package with the heated armrests?

Mine does the same, took it to the dealer and the noise comes from the back seat....nothing to be done according to them.

I have the heat package and have noticed the armrest flexes. I thought it could have been a bit stronger to give more of an impression of the car being solidly built. In reality though it doesn’t cause any problems.

Mine is sturdy. Heating plus comfort seats not sure if that matters.

My only gripe with the center console is the driver's side flap is finicky when opening at times. I can press the center or more towards the driver's side and only the passenger's side will open. This only happens if it's been a little while since opening. Not sure if this is also from leaning on it at all. It's solid though that's for sure!

I have the heat package and have unfortunately also noticed the armrest flexes. It popped/creaked once when leaning on it and I thought I cracked it. My 2018 530's armrest also flexed.

It depends on where you are leaning your arm, if dead center you will probably get minimal flex. I just make sir my arm is on my "left" side and no issues. I have the heated arm rest btw. Remember it's not one piece it comprises of two doors.

Heated armrest, MY2019, April 2019 build: no flex. I wouldn't want to stand on it, but feels completely solid otherwise.

Do we have enough anecdotal reports now to correlate the issue to heated vs non-heated or to conclude a defect on OP's build?

MY19, May build, no heated armrest, solid as a rock when leaning. May not be related to heating but a defect.

LOL. Just noticed OP's original post was exactly 1 year ago and the resurrection this Nov was due to a side question of "creaking". The resurrection occurred on 11/18/19 and original discussion was 11/20/18 — none of us noticed the 18/19 transposition. The OP has long since gotten over their original question and dropped it over a year ago.

(shakes head at US-style date formats, use of 2 digit year designation 20 years after the decade-long Y2K fiasco, humanity's cultural inability to learn, and forums ...)
