The dealer told me preheating is a standard option on the 45e. Maybe it runs on batteries instead of petrol/diesel. The i3 and i8 also have a preheater by default.

Yes that is true. It is standard and uses electricity. So no petrol version available. Preheating works if battery level is more than 40% (dealer told).

You are right. I stand corrected. My apologies.🥺🤐

There is indeed a standard heating or cooling possible prior to departure, and it is standard.

I didn't even know and I ordered the car...🥴

Is the 45e available in Fire Engine Red? Anyone putting a Firebird (aka Flaming Chicken) hood or flame side decals on? You know, to mask the real thing.

Too soon? If we can't laugh at others, how can we laugh at ourselves.

Oblig on topic, I agree with everyone's disappointment and practical considerations. Lithium fires are extremely serious and uncontrollable. As crazy as that is, if you have one, park it outside the house.

Yap. But it is so much better when set to a chill rhythm and a crackling fireplace track. Timing the explosion to the start of bar beat was a nice touch too.

Got mine a bit over a month ago.

Preheating is on my 45e. Mostly use it via app and works well.

3D remote view does not work. Worked for 1 day. No one knows why.

E-range: 50-55km at best. Tried all modes: Hybrid / Hybrid Eco / Electrical

Charging max 16A takes about 8h so around 9min of charging per real usable km that you can drive.

Fire: it is not a battery fire (based on video it started in front of car). Preventive repair done (15min fix). Should be all safe now (??)

But then again another BMW hybrid caught fire yesterday in Belgium (5-series?).

I don't think that one is a BMW, because it's a touring model. The only hybrid touring model BMW has at this moment in time, is the 3 series and I doubt someone already has it in Belgium.

Interesting to read your numbers on the range and charging time.
Both are very different from what other people mentioned on the forum.
How would you describe your driving style because you are missing almost 30km of electrical range compared to others.

Your charging time also seems to be quite a bit longer compared to others, are you sure you are reaching the max charging capacity of the car. (maybe there's a config setting in your charging point that is wrong?)

Indeed, don't think that's a BMW...

But it won't be the last hybrid in flames i am affraid. On the other hand, if a petrol car burns down, no news outlet will cover the event so lets assume it is not neccesarily a hybrid car issue?

Probably a Toyota. A gas tank cap is on left side and tail lights are very much toyota-like..

I have tried everything from manual to self driving. Most economical seems to be the self driving with adaptive mode and that gets one up to about 55km.
BMW dealer sees similar range with their demo car.

I am curious to find out how anyone reached more than that.

Charging is 16A max with on a public wall charger about 6-7h. Wall socket plug about 8h.

The battery is around 24kWh and you can charge maximum at 3.7kWh so is about 7 hours to a full charge.

Too bad BMW doesn't allow for faster charging.

The distance on the display is related to your previous driving style, maybe try to reset you average electrical consumption and see what is on your display?

Did it based on distance driven and % of battery used. Did reset it to no avail.

Quick question for the Belgian owners who took delivery already, did your insurrance company ask for a track and trace solution as a requirement to get the insurrance?

No to the contrary. Actually pretty funny. Because it is a hybrid car it is not required. Guess no one steals an hybrid :-)

My independent insurance guy told me the requirement of T&T mostly depends on the catalog price and the limit the insurance company uses. Some use 100k, some 80k and depending on this, they would ask you to install a track and trace solution.

For mine it's not required, but I'm still doubting to have one installed after delivery.

Since location services are built into the X5 what would be the advantage of installing another service?

That's indeed what makes me doubt about it, so I will probably not install it :-)

My insurance (AG) normally requires it as it is more than 80K EUR but as it is a hybrid car it is not required. Pleasantly surprised. Rate is also lower than what used to pay for my previous one.

Shocking!!! The car company that has produced cars with horrible electrical systems going back to the 70s is now making all electric cars that catch on fire. Stick to the internal combustion engine fellas!!

Illogical.

Battery Electric Cars are less likely to catch fire versus a gasoline car.
